Thanks Ted, My LHS happen to have the beefier CC BEC in stock (the BEC Pro). Not much more money then the regular CC BEC ..... so I went with that. I have had good success with the single battery setup and these CC externel BEC's ...... so I am sort of affraid to change.

I just opened the box that had the batteries in it. These 6S 5000 mah packs are like a brick ! Is this thing going to fly ! ! ...... yikes ......

I had the same "yikes" pronouncement after I saw the 6s cell. Btw, some of the guys are simply putting 2 3s packs in series and are apparently saving some $$ that way. I went ahead and ordered the 6s cells (I bought an e-flight 6s and a Thunderpower 6s) before I even thought about it. Only money? Right? (gulp - I won't my wife read that!) Yes, the aircraft is a surprisingly great flyer, in fact, right before the threshold, I usually chop the power and letter float in - it has great low speed manners - many of my landings are of the 2-3 hop variety simply because I didn't bleed off enough speed before I touched her down. The plane is a dream to put together and you will have fun - use the grade of epoxy they recommend - 15-30 minute stuff is called for quite a bit. Have fun and send a picture or 2.

Need a bit of help here. I have what I would call a really weird problem with my ESC/Motor/Receiver/ or sumthin!! I am using the E-flight 80 amp pro esc (not using the bec). When I connect the battery, I get a good cell count. However, when I power up the receiver, I no longer the 3 tones indicating the esc arms. I have checked the receiver, the ESC (it works if I substitute a servo programmer), and have subbed the wiring to the esc (there was a short servo extension in there from which I disconnected the orange wire). Seems I can make the esc operate normally if I use the servo testor, but, using a receiver, it no longer works (I subbed 2 receivers to be sure). Any thoughts - other than a bad ESC? The problem started about 2 nights ago, btw, when the esc didn't arm right away - took much longer than it normally does - usually just about instantaneous, but, was taking 10-15 seconds before it quit altogether. After describing this problem, I am leaning to guess a bad esc. LOL - any thought?? If it's the esc, why does a servo positioner work? Different pulse height?

Found the culprit! I had somehow bumped the throttle trim on my 9503 so the receiver pulse to the esc was out of the 1.2-1.8 ms "window". I simply lowered the trim lever (the throttle trim on the 9503 is mechanical) to the middle position, and, it works!!! Something to watch out for in the future.

i think this might be where you have gone wrong, you have disconnected the orange signal wire, you need to disconnect the middle red wire when not using the ESC BEC

I meant the signal wire, not the 5 volt wire - but thanks for your response.

I've now got about 32 flights on mine and it really does fly well. Once you get the landing speed sorted out, it is a fun airplane. Mine is 100% stock including the ESC and 6S pack. It slows down nicely with full flaps. Gear wire is a bit soft, typical of metal products coming from that part of the world!

Neat! If the plastic thrust tube protruding from the tail cone bothers you, use a Dremel to grind it off - most of us here did that with no ill-effects.

Maidened mine this weekend and put 4 flights on it. I am still amazed on how an airplane that is this heavy (for its size) flies so well. I let people pick it up ...... and enjoy their reactions when they see how heavy it is. The folks at E-Flite really did a fantastic job on this planes design. (I still can't believe how heavy it is ........). Bob

Yes - landings can be a handful at our field - not the best surface (grass and mainly dirt) - so, I usually get a few bounces. In fact, I am replacing the springs on my TamJet's struts already. The corn around here is getting too high to make the best approach .

Hey,
Can anyone tell me what diameter they are using on the exhaust of the thrust tube? And has anyone experimented with different diameters?

Hey Gary I see that you show the mega motors in stock now. Will you actually have a few left over? I'm thinking about getting a second one for another project?

Anyone used the EFlite 15-25 elecrtric retracts on the Habu 32? They are the same size frames just bigger wire struts 3.5 mm vs 3.0 mm

The 15-25 E-Flites are what is spec'd for the jet, and everyone is using. Yes the wire on those is 3.5mm. the (mains) wire will bend with nearly every landing, and must be bent back for the wheel to retract into the well. After enough of this bending the plastic trunion wil crack.
We carry the Tam's struts. They are sprung, trailing link struts, and will alleviate this problem. The spring on the Tams struts, will take a set after a few landings. So it them becomes loose, also deterring the gear from completely closing. Tam sells a upgrade kit for his struts with new (different) springs now.
The 25-46 retracts have bigger wire, and come with metal trunions. but they are a bit too thick for the wing. and will protrude from the bottom of the wing. We have not tried actually install them yet.

Ah I miss read the manual and have been using the 10-15s gear. Doooooh!
They work on hard surface if you are really nice to them...
Thanks for the tune up.

On another forum, a member claims one of his wing spars just snapped at the wing root during a lift off. I don't doubt he destroyed his airplane because the wing spar broke, but I do not understand how it could possibly happen. These spars are very strong for vertical loads and I never expect them to break off just like that.
Has anyone else had this happen to them? I am trying to figure out if there were any pre-existing problems which may have caused it. He did not have the wings glued in for ease of transportation (neither do I, and my spars are still pristine after over 30 flights).

Thanks.

That's the first I've heard of this! I wonder if the owner hadn't drilled the spars to accommodate the #10 hex head screws in order to prevent the wing from levering away from the fuselage with each landing? I was tempted to do the same thing, but, ended up using RTV to bond the wing to the fuselage since I could transport the plane fully assembled anyway. If I ever need to remove either or both wings, a #11 Xacto blade should release the wing. I certainly haven't been bothered with either wing having a gap since I did that (thanks, Gary).

I don't know if the owner drilled the spars, but I don't think so. It would be of little consequence, anyways, because he said the spar snapped clean off the fuselage as if cut with a knife.
I honestly can't believe there was no pre-existant condition (hard landing, broken anti-rotation dowel, something else). The spars look just too solid to break away like that.
Of course glue is the answer but, in my case, I want to carry the habu in the trunk of my car along with at least one big plane (jet or propeller driven) and it just won't fit with the wings on, so if that's the only solution mine is going on sale soon...
