I added a poll to keep more information coming in. I really have enjoyed everyone's input, and help!

I feel the Escape is more aesthetically pleasing. I like the looks of the sub-fin under the Vertical Stab/Rudder. I'd definitely go with a 2 cycle. I'd prefer a YS, Jett, and am looking into an OPS...

I still think I'd prefer trike retracts, however... Since Joe shows both options on the Great Escape plans, I could live with it as a tail dragger.

I'm curious which of the three pitches least in knife-edge. I'm guessing the Great Escape. Am I wrong?

Brian

Brian,

have you seen any of these with conventional gear? They like mighty odd if you ask me - as if someone had cut off a leg from the model. Dave Guerin's XLT might be the exception but then he's an exceptional builder and finisher. I never did like the XLT though. Looks like an overfed Escape.

Trike retracts, pipes, RE 2 strokes, 'nough said...

My $20 (dollars, not cents )

David.

Brian,

I would go with Escape (looks better than the XLT)with the Cunningham mods. Has to be better with the lower stab
position. When I get to building mine it will have a MVVS 61 RE and trike U/C

Which version did you find to be less pitchy in knife-edge flight?

Have you put any distance between Earth and your Great Escape?

If so, how'd it go???

I'll go with the Escape, mostly because it's in the box awaiting a place on the work bench (or maybe it's a XLT?) For sure it will get a two stroke; why? Just because it makes me yearn even more for my old 1977 Z28 (yeah I know, but it was a great car to this then 20 year old and held my Tiger Tail nicely!).

Hook,

Do you have a powerplant ready to go already? Which 2 stroke are you planning to use?

MTK,

I am curious if any of these airplanes with pitch issues on knife-edge. I may have to build them all to find out for myself!

Well... It isn't really what everyone has been saying at all. The Cunningham modifications are mostly unique to his changes, and not entirely copied over. I'll write up a list and share.

doxilia, would you agree that the Great Escape has a different airfoil (not circumference)?

Brian

We have often found that pitch in knife edge, to either side, belly or canopy, if it's consistent one or the other, can be trimmed out with no electronic mix. It isn't so much a matter of design per se.

If the plane does both, canopy with top right AND belly with top left, it may be trim or design or usually both, and the final set up will be a compromise

Here are a couple of old pics of my old Escape, it was bult by Joe Stewart with all the Cunningham mods. He told me all the changes but it was a long time ago, I think besides the change to the vertical and no sub fin the fuse has a little less depth in the nose and a little more on the back. I think He may have also said something about wing and stab placement, but like I said it was a long time ago so I'm not sure.

If I remember correctly Knife Edge was good with a little mix.

Steve,

don't use the multi-upload. Just use the regular and link each photo into each uplink button. You can post 16 pics per post - more than plenty.

Love the clean simple sleek lines of the Escape. Looks like a Webra you were running there?

David.

David,

Thanks for the tip.

Not a Webra, OS 61RFP, APC 12x10, Macs header and pipe, B&D retracts. It flew great, no bad habits.

I'd forgotten how good looking the old escape was. Thanks for sharing. Anybody got plans?

Brian,

I have a few choices for the engine; either a Kraft, O.S., Rossi, or even a Webra. Probably use Rhom Airs for the gear.
