Scott,
Isn't that the P-47 that MAN listed as Frankie T's?
Can't wait to see it in Owatonna in 2012!

Yes it is. As they so INCORRECTLY reported. In fact there are three of them being built/finished in Franks shop at the same time. Mine as seen here and in MAN. Franks which was test flown about two weeks ago. And a third which is being built for Brian O. Frank and I each built ours side by side and had a ball doing so. Brian's is being built for him by a friend of mine named Denny Deweese. Brian's will debut in December at 12 O'clock High in Lakeland Florida. Mine and Franks will be at MONSTER PLANES.....full dress!

I'm glad you brought that up so I could explain. You could imagine the stomach pain I had when I read the subtitle to the picture. Like I'm there only for perspective......heck it was MY picture too!

All the best,
Scott P

My big 47 did what it was supposed to do today. The weather was perfect if not a little too hot and calm. The helpers and friends I had were my big advantage. One single flight to prove to myself it was worthy of the extra time and finances to paint and detail her which I will start that process tomorrow.

The flight was really uneventful in nature. Took to the air under full throttle and sort of lifted itself off to a nice shallow slow climbout.....very cool. The gear up worked on que and to perfection. The engine seemed to operate very well once we tuned it to the fuel we were burning and the big prop we turned (40 x 18). I hope to find or have made a 38 x 22 for this puppy which should pull it around the 95 to 100 mph mark.

Did a roll with the plane and she followed my command with grace. The smoke system and lights went off without a hitch as well. Very happy with everything I decided to make for a landing. Gear and flaps down....all good with little or no pitch change. Came in at half throttle for fear this 121 lb puppy may fall out of the sky and landed smooth and long. Debriefing tells me I could of landed this 47 at near half the speed I did. Something to shoot for next time at MONSTER PLANES. The sound of that 400 has got me stoked. Much louder than the 250 by 3 or 4 times the volume level.

Got some video that my buddy shot. Should be posted before the weekend is out. I will post the link as soon as I get it. I'm excited to watch it myself!

All the best,
Scott

Very cool. Thank you again for doing that and the "heads up". Another example of the great Wisconsin people. I had such a great time.....keep reliving the whole experience.

I think you guys should come down to Florida for MONSTER PLANES and or 12 O'clock High to show your enthusiasm for the sport/hobby.

ATB,
Scott

I know its a bit late, but I just remembered that I had this video on my camera. It's a walk down the entire flightline on Saturday.

I did not know how to put it on the website of the Fond du lac airshow, but perhaps they will find it and move it there.

Thanks for posting it JeffEE. Reminded me of one of the best times I've ever had in the hobby. Two weeks this summer spent traveling up north to hang and fly with the guys in Owatonna, MN and you guys in Fond du Lac, WI. Just doesn't get any better. Great weather, flying sites, planes, events and most of all people. Fun times and memories!

Looking forward to seeing those new Planes! I can't seem to get anything new done and am just lucky to find time to pull maintenance on two planes for this season.

Good luck,

Done.
Got four kits on the 'shelf' (three are Ziroli).
Will probably get two done over the winter; not sure which two, but the P-40 will probably be one of them.

Roy,
Save my 'spot'!

Can't wait to see those new planes. I've got a Ziroli P38 I picked up at Toledo last year, not to mention the Top Flite P47 & Corsair waiting. I can't seem to get anything new started and am lucky to find the time to pull maintenance on two planes for this season.

Good Luck!

Brian Ward
