The fifth annual Warbirds and Classics over the Midwest event (WCOM) held in Fond du Lac, WI is less than five months away! The dates are Aug. 18th, 19th, & 20th, with a fixed wing open event on the 21st. Quite a few pilots are already preregistered. Check out some of the "big guns" already signed up at www.midwestwarbirds.com There you can see hundreds of photos by world renowned photographer Palmer Johnson and several excellent videos of recent shows. There is a feature article in the May, 2011 issue of FLY RC Magazine that will also give you a taste of the event. At the rate of preregestration, this years show promises to be the best ever. It draws pilots from all across the USA and Canada. Currently the pilot from the farthest distance is from Aukland, New Zeeland. Last year over 125 pilots thrilled the 3,000 spectators over the 4 day event. I can't wait!

I'm coming to this years event with or without a plane. Mine are just not going to be ready in time unless a miracle happens! I need an engine for my 124" Corsair and my 96" P-40 might be done if I quit working on my Corsair and start on it.

And you can do a warbird tune up the weekend before at Owatana Minnesota at the Northern Alliance Military Fly In. http://www.smmac.com/NAMFI/Northern_Alliance_Military_Fly_In/Welcome.html I hope to make it to both this year. There are some WWI birds I am looking forward to flying with.

I am sure Brian Ward and I will be there as long as gas prices don't get to out of hand.
Hope to have one, maybe two new planes up there this year.

Gary,

Dream of the nicest field you can in Gods country with grass you would sleep on. Then Picture it long enough to land some full scale on and you pretty much got the picture!

It so worth the drive I'm going to try to make it this year! Was there two years ago and wished I had my planes with me. This year, I'm driving the truck and trailer all the way from Tampa...God willing. Gonna hit Owatonna the week before! Going to see my buddies, fly a bunch, and have a ball. Great people and great fun. Both the events are top of the class!

See you there??? C'mon man!

Scott

That sounds great Scott. After I posted, I looked in on the pictures from last year. It does look outstanding. Looks like they could use a couple P-47s and maybe a P-38. Might even have the F4U-1 done by then. All depends on how work goes, but I will take it under serious consideration. Should be great weather as well.

Gary, it (the field) resembles an approximate 1200 foot putting green, short fairway anyway....no joke!

Hey Jeff,
Don't sell us short. (Just kidding). The runway is actually 1,320 ft. (1/4 mile) long by 280 ft. wide (No kidding) and you are right, it is easily fairway if not putting green quality. We use a 5 reel 11ft cut, diesel fairway mower to cut it. We actually have two fairway mowers. One for the runway which we clip very short, another 5 gang rotary diesel, 10ft cut for the parking lot and we have another 6ft rotary cut for back up. Our grounds specialists (club members) mow 20 acres of grass per cutting. I guess you could say we're into "giant scale lawn mowers" and the more the better! Ha Ha.
It'll be great seeing you guys again. It's always a blast!
Roy

Sounds like giant scale heaven to me. I truly would love to come. Just depends on how busy our little business gets this year. I'll work on the logistics.

Warbirds and Classics Over the Midwest in Fond du Lac, WI is just a short 6 weeks away! We've got word that Mac Hodges will be joining us this year with his B-29 / X-1 combo. That will sure be something to see!

We hope to see everyone there!

Still not sure my friend. Brian goes in for another operation the first week in August. I'm a hopeless optimist, but I still am doubtful we will make it. We'll see.

Hey Guys,
Looks like God has smiled upon me as I will be coming up from Tampa for both the Owatonna and Fond du Lac gatherings in the coming weeks. Really looking forward to seeing everyone and all the new faces. Of course how can I forget the beautiful runway and setup you guys have. Really looking forward to it all. Hope the weather cooperates. I think the 'Cat and Jug will love Wisconsin.....as I do!

See you soon!

Scott, Gotta say that I am pretty stoked to get a look at that Wildcat firsthand. I hope you don't mind if I stop in at your tent and make your acquaintance while I am eyeballing the thing. I may travel light without birds, but it won't affect my enjoyment. Plenty to look at.

Mike
