What vicman said. Can you post some pictures of what you have? We like old airplanes.

This is a tough one. Old glue that for some reason was not the proper type to use or that has become frail from exposure to bad conditions is going to be hard to fix.

First you have to understand that adding glue to the outside does very little if it doesn't wick into the contact point of the old joint. A glue joint's strength comes from the thin film bonding the fibers together in close contact. Smearing or buttering glue onto the outside does very little in this regard.

About all you can do is try a drop of the watery thin forumla CA applied to the outside and hope that it wicks into the poor structure of the existing joint and hardens things up.

Also you will want to check the joints that you broke so easily to see if it's the actual glue that failed or did the surface of the wood actually bust away and is still stuck to the glue. If it's the wood that broke away then it's possible that the storage conditions were such that the wood has become damaged due to a number of various possible causes.

I sort of go along with what Bruce mentions here. Up front watch out for stringers coated with glow oils. Nothing sticks to that.
