Hi,
I bought a used q-jett here on rcu and the bearings are seeld. Is this normal for the q-jett as my sj 40's have the bearings totaly open? Also, when I tighten up the prop the crankshaft won't turn anymore. Help! sean

Hi Sean.....

Thanks for writing.

The rear bearing is never sealed. The front bearings are usually not sealed, especially on the Q-500 engines...front bearing lubrication is critical. Although Dub has provided sealed front bearings on special requests, on a few sport engines.

Sounds like the bearings had been replace along the way. If they are not the correct size, when you tighten down on the crank shaft, you may excessively preload the bearings preventing them from turning.

Considering it will not turn with the prop and drive washer installed, something may have been misaligned along the way too. It would be worth while shipping the engine back to Dub for inspection and a new set of bearings. Address is on the web site www.jettengineering.com
