Status: offline 		ok i might not b in right forum,but i have a friend whos looking to up scale a 60 class plans to 1/4 scale. now does he just get plans blown up or does he have to go some other way? i know theres a formula to this madness lol just wasnt sure on whole idea .if anybody knows please let me know thanks

Status: offline 		First off we need to know is it a model of a full size scale plane & if so what
scale are the plans drawn to (1/8th, 1/6th, 1/5th, ect) or just a 60 sized sport
plane. If it is just a sport plane, what size engine does he want to power it with?
Once the variables are know suggestions can be made.

I recently had a set of 1/4 scale Bud Nosen plans enlarged to 1/3rd scale, to do
this they had to be enlarged 133%, this was done by: plansplotter@yahoo.com
once you know which direction to go send him an e-mail and he will estimate what
the cost would be.

Status: offline 		Just have him remember, that the wood sizes will scale as well, and will probably NOT be standard sizes. It is dooable, just not real easy.

Status: offline 		no its a rc model 60 class looking to build up into a gasser around 80 inch wing span.it also has foam core wings ,also how do u go about canopy and cowling? i cant remember name of plane ill find out today and get back to u guys

Status: offline 		If you look at the different plans services you may just find the plans for the plane you are looking for in the size you want. It's often as not cheaper just to buy the plans. Who is going to cut the foam cores for you? I'm the worst foam cutter I have ever seen so when I see plans calling for foam cores I avoid them. I have used Kinko's to enlarge plans for me. The wood does also go up in size but that isn't a big problem. Most the time the same size wood used in a 60 size plane will work for the bigger plane. You just have to use your head and think about it during the build and use the size you think is required. For things like canopy's and cowls you can look in magazines for ARFs of the same plane that is clost to the same size and buy there replacement parts. I also use Fiberglass Specialities for parts. Finding an ARF that will work is a lot cheaper though. What you want to do isn't a big deal but I don't have a local foam cutter so it wouldn't be my choice of plane. I did have some good cutters before I moved but that's a thing of the past.

Multiply the current plans by 133%. Now having said that if the plans are already
36" wide that will make them 48" wide. Get in touch with Dennis through the above
mentioned e-mail and he will get you going toward the enlargement, he is able to print
up to 42" wide and is very good at what he does, I for one am a very happy customer.
As stated above you will also have to do some resizing on the materials used in the
original plans, not a hard thing to do if you have scratch built before, just round up or
down to the nearest size balsa, spruce, plywood availalble through your chosen suppliers.
I can recommend 2 very good foam core cutting specialist, Don @ Eureka Aircraft in Arkansas,
www.eurekaaircraft.com and Bob At Flying Foam: www.flyingfoam.com/launch.html, both
are very good with foam cutting and very reasonable on pricing.
