The front cockpit is pretty much done now. I had to leave some room below for the RC equipment, so the floor is higher than scale. The lowest thing will be the rudder pedal tracks. The top wing sheeting will be the true bottom of the cockpit painted black. With the canopy on a lot of this just won't be very visible.

I am still trying to make the Century Jet pilot work. Not only is he going to be a big guy, but he looks too old to be a 1944 US Army student Pilot! Maybe he will be a Colonel or General getting a check ride! And he is a little heavy. Sounds about right eh?

The Pilot is done and glued in now. I had to cut down his torso in hight and width. I had to cut down his arms and legs. I even had to sand down his head and reshape his face. He is still a little big, but beleavable now. I ground out a lot of his insides to make him lighter too. I hate spending so much time on the pilot, I am building a plane not a statue! There just were not any good pilots available for this size. All the products are for GIANT scale now.
I am working my way back with the roll over structure done now. Next will be the rear panel and cockpit.

@scale dail
I've found proper scale pilots to be a bit hard to come by depending on the scale of the aircraft. Perhaps I'm a bit more picky then most but I, like you, enjoy a pilot that looks good vs. throwing something in the drivers seat. That being said, I have placed some rather large pilots in my aircraft at times and it worked out alright because having them bigger helped you to actually see them when they were up in the air.

I bet you could find that tail number somewhere. There's gotta be a picture on the web.

Work has been taking a lot more of my time these days. I still pick away at this model and I am done with the cockpit now. Next I'll glue on the canopy, mask it off and start the surface detailing. With panel lines and rivets in the scale locations.

That is one nice looking cockpit. Keep up the details as they come...
Unfortunately I had a rough landing and put the firewall of the E-flite Texan to the test. I lost.  It's clear that the firewall of this kit is not "impact" ready by any means. I clipped a wing on landing, followed by the nose and it rocked the whole front loose. Sooooo, I'm in the midst of repairs and needing to really toughen up the front. Ah well, you live you learn more.

Well, I am glad that you have the skills to repair it. Not many do anymore.
I added the scale exaust to mine. All balsa. I threw some paint on it prematurely just for the photo. Masking off the canopy will take me awhile. Then it will be rivet time!

There are some panels in the front behind the cowl. I used some extra Flite Metal I had laying around. The panels will get painted silver with the rest of the plane. Kind of a waist huh? The bare metal looks good.

I could not stand it, I had to tear off the Flite Metal. Those front panels really do stick out and the flite Metal was not thick enough. So I sheeted that area with balsa. One step forward and two back .

I have had good luck with the Flite Metal, thanks for the offer. This model will be painted silver with Klasskote.
Laying out the panel lines referencing the plastic model and photos.

Panel lines on the fuse are all done! You can't see it very well in the pic though. Next the wing. I used 1/64th chart tape. The final coat will go over that. On a 40 size model I see no reason to go with engraved panel lines, it adds weight with layers of primer. When all the panel lines are on, then I'll add the rivets, hundreds of rivets!
I think I see light at the end of the tunnel!

Panel lines? Hundreds of rivets? You've gone mad! Oh wait,… that's right, I did that too.

It's looking awesome Scale! On side note, my wife and I just purchased our first home. Now I can FINALLY do some serious modeling  No more small workshop in the second bedroom. I even might go so far as to strip down the Texan I just did (previous posts) and copy your approach to sheeting. The again, I haven't flown it enough to get my kicks. Maybe next year.

Keep 'er going Scale. Looking great!

Oh yes we have gone mad! Who in thier right mind would take a perfectly good electric ARF and ruin it like we have!

In mean time I bought a very well made Jemco AT-6 right here on RCU. The Jemco AT-6 that I had years ago inspired this AT-6 project. This Jemco AT-6 was built in 1984! It is in great shape, power is an old K&B .40! Same size as the Eflite. 54" Now I'll have two!
