I am currently 1/4" behind the recommended 3".

From reading various websites I have seen recommendations ranging from 1/2" behind the recommended CG to 1" in front. I have also read that the plane is more pitch sensitive than most designs to CG placement.

Thanks for your input!

For IMAC, CG is really a personal preference. Some prefer a generally nuetral CG......... most prefer a slight nose heavy CG. Just go to the field and bring a bunch of zip ties, and move your batteries to try a few different CG scenarios, and see what you personally like best as you fly your pattern. A good test to see where you are at is go on a full-throttle 45deg upline inverted. if it holds straight without dropping....you are in the fairly nuetral range. If it slowly falls, you are getting into the noseheavy range........... alot of people shoot for a slight fall while inverted on the 45deg upline for IMAC.

Spend some time and find out what you like best, your CG is an important baseline that dictates your trimming and mixes as well.

Good luck.........871

I just went and measured mine. While I fly mostly 3D I do occasionally hit a few of the IMAC routines. 3 1/4" is certainly flyable by anyone that has good flying skills (IE plenty of low wing sport time). Mine is at 3 5/8" and is what I'd term very very neutral but on landing approach care must be taken as it will slow down and just drop out of the air without warning. The only clue is 1 1/2 to 2 seconds before it falls it starts dropping the tail below the plane of the wing when viewed straight inline with the wing. I'm typically less than ten ft high when I notice it and just blip the throttle once or twice and then back to idle and it pretty much lands itself. At 3 5/8" it flies completely hands off inverted when trimmed to fly level right side up at slightly over half throttle. At 3" it will be noticeably nose heavy, at 3.25" it will still exhibit some nose heaviness and at 3.5 it will be about as close to the neutral point as most will want to venture.

Set your throws up as per the manual, maiden it on the low rate settings and you'll be just fine. You may even find yourself switching to the medium throws on that first flight. This an incredible plane for a 50cc. I had help from one of the best freestylers here in the states when I first started with mine and he walked me through moving the CG back in order to help with wing rock etc. He claimed the AW Extra 260 50cc and 100cc were the best all around freestyle birds he had flown. He was doing rolling harriers so low he was bumping the tail feathers on the ground, and all sorts of madness so I take his word. Good luck with yours and I hope you have as much fun with it as I have with mine. Best darned plane I've ever owned period.

(No I do not have any affiliation with AeroWorks, never have.)

Jezmo,

What helpful input - THANKS! I once maidened a WH Edge that was tail heavy and I got it down just fine, but why have all the stress

With a DA50 and a canister the 260 built tail heavy. I have already installed CF in the horizontal stab and installed the RX battery next to the wing tube to get 3.25". I have 125 flights on on my AW 50cc Yak54 and have always enjoyed it. I am sure this plane will fly nice too. I especially like smaller size of this plane. So many 50cc planes now are huge.

And thanks for the landing advice. Now if winter would just end I might be able to fly it.

hi. i am some what in dilemma and cant decide wether i should go with the extra 260 or the edge 540.... please share some light in this as it will also be my first 50cc. I enjoy basic to sportsman aerobatics and truly love speed. thanks and hope to get some good advice as my flying buddies all fly anything but aerowrks and are into hardcore 3d.
