I'm useing a 120 sp in a nieuport 28 that I'm building . I've read a lot about cooling engines and decided to use a computer fan to cool my engine . What I can't decide on is weather to push air over my engine thru a duct , or pull it thru from the bottom . Anyone have any ideas on this .

all you need is a baffle right underneath the engine that leads air upwards to the engine.

Status: offline 		You might consider using a small ducted fan. They generate a pretty good airflow, probably more than a computer fan. I use one to exhaust the air on an SP 90 in a TF Spit. I'm planning on adding a thermocouple controller to automatically adjust the fan speed. A good baffle will help a lot too.

I'm not familiar with ducted fans . How much fan do you think I would need and what kind of battery does one use . The rest of my plane is on nicads. I belive I have a good baffle shape in mind .

Status: offline 		I used a small GWS? GWS? ducted fan and ran it off a separate Lipo. The DF I used is a brushed, I would recommend a brushless. It doesn't have to be too big, somthing around 2". It runs off an appropriate ECS, but I changed the wiring so it runs off it's own battery. Here's some pics.

The Lipo is under the velcro on the top, the ECS is tucked in behind the DF and is not visible. The yellow wrapped battery is a NiMh for onboard glow. The onboard glow is controlled by a micro switch activated by a wheel collar attached to the throttle linkage. The baffle is cone shaped and made of fiberglass and the aluminum shield is also to force as much of the airflow through the baffle. The only air inlet is between the back of the spinner and the front of the cowl, so operation of the fan is pretty critical. Even though this project is several years old, I don't have a lot of operation time. Most has been on the ground and the cooling has been sufficient. I did blow two fans, but they were under $20 each. I picked up a brushless replacement but have not installed it yet. It should be more reliable than the brushed.

Thanks for the info on fans and the pics . I did some reading about ducted fans and they look like a good idea . Of to the local hobby shop to see what they have .
