I am building a composite Corsair and have come to another problem. Now that I have figured out how to cut foam cores with the correct gull and airfoil shape, I am now stuck at the 3 peice wing. Any ideas are welcome thanks

What exactly do you need to know?

Make the center section in composite attached at the fuse like the real one, and make the outer panels as the real one as well in foam.

Kinda like our little one but in foam outer section and 3 piece, not one.

I don't think I would use foam.

I'd spend the time to build a built up wing.

The center section will be a challenge to cut, the outer panels would be easy.I would make a balsa and ply center and foam outer panels to cut down on the time. To cut the center in foam it would have to be in 3 sections, the center where the fuse sit and the 2 sides. You could try it but be sure to cut the right angles so as to get the gull shape. Then you could either just glass where the joints are with 1 oz cloth or make ply spars. I would glass AFTER each section is sheeted then glued together and sanded nice. Makes a neater job.

I don't see how a foam core wing will hold any type of joiner and be safe. You will need something solid for either the wing tubes or joiner box channel and spade. Check out my thread and see how I did it with a built up wing using joiners. "Blown up Ziroli 124" F4U-5N Build."

Just what wing span are we talking about here?

Barry Joiners does work on foam gull wings, very well, any size. You just have to build to what size your wing is. The pockets are glued into the outer panels to what ever length that makes you happy. The blades are glued into the gull center section to what ever thickness that makes you happy.

Did you read my post? It doesn't sound like you understood what I said. I said they wouldn't work!!! The wing will have to be composite and hoolow like the Byron Corsairs and then the joiners will have to be bolted to the solid fiberglas inbetwwen the top and bootm skins. Plus why epoxy and bolt the spades to the center section if you want to save space. It is easier to bolt and epoxy them to the outer wing panels and hang them up in your transport vehicle.

I did read your post correctly. You said in a nut shell that you cant do plug in foam gull wings it has to be hollow in order to install the set up for the plugin spars. And I said wrong.. it can be done. Guess you have not done too much complex building, if you did you would know it can and was done many times. As a matter of fact there is a video on you tube done by Ty on how to build a plug in foam wing. Even though its a 2 piece wing, just follow the same for a 3 piece Very easy. Go check it out, and his way is only one of a few ways to do it.

Not everyone has a vehicle that can carry large wings, thats why we find ways to break them up for transport.

I don't do anything complex except build from scratch and make up my own three piece wing with spades and box channels made on a CNC machine for a 125" Corsair. I guess thats not as complex as building a foam wing.
