Well, I finally weighed mine today and it weighs 30 pounds 3 ounces. I knew it was heavier than my Great Planes Extra, but it really flies light, and the BME 105 with K&S pipes pulls it around well. Can't wait to get my BME 110 Extreme in it though.

I agree with Joshflysall, it is a GREAT plane for sequence work. I'll take his 3D performance report for granted since I'm not into 3D so much.

Status: offline 		30 lbs. is in the ballpark for a 35% plane without any lightening mods... Especially if there are redundant batteries, switches, smoke, etc...

My 33% Edge with 105" wing is 26.75 lbs, and the Extra is 106" and considerably bigger stabs, fuse and cowl.

The WH Extra is advertised at 27-28 tho... and I can see maybe a lb. in wood density variance in a plane this size...

It'll be a couple more weeks before I can get around to putting mine together, but I'll post all the info in a building article.

The first production plane that I assembled, with a DA-100, assembled per the manual with no modifications, dual 1650 nimh 5 cel packs, weighed exactly 28 pounds. I added canisters and picked up another pound, now it's 29. This is the red/yellow one shown in the manual photos, and I'm still flying it if anyone wants to come to Dallas and check my veracity.

If you start with mine at 28, change to a BME or ZDZ 100 engine, you've got 27 pounds or maybe a little less. Dick Hanson's with a ZDZ-80 weighs 26.5. He did some lightening of the h-stab, but that was mostly to get it to balance rather than reduce overall weight.

The problem is nobody builds a plane without making some changes, and people feel they need to add strengthening or other stuff, so as a practical matter most of them end up at 29-30, but our specs for the vanilla plane are accurate.

Just FYI, nobody has complained that it flies heavy, on the contrary everyone who owns one exclaims how nice a light it feels and how slow flight is so easy.

We were all set to go Saturday A.M. but the weather was lookign pretty ominous on our side of Columbus... So we bailed.

THEN we find out that the weather held off in Dayton... (someone has some mighty strong pull out there)


To be honest I haven't started the Extra yet... I've decided to recover it with something more my "style", but I've got two custom builds to finish for customers and I have 3 reviews to complete.

I have a real nice vinyl cutter now so I'll be able to go to town with the scheme...

here's one of those custom builds almost done... a 69.5" Pitts Challenger III...
