Status: offline 		I'd like to explore some options on the wheels for my Shockwave buggy. I know 2.2", 12mm hex, etc, but the front wheels seem to have a limited depth available due to the C-Hubs (I think?), and aren't as wide as the rear. For giggles I attempted to mount the Talon's from my E-Revo on the buggy, worked on the back but not on the front. Will I have this issue if I go for standard 2.2" Dish Wheels (such as the HPI ones?).

I would eventually like to put some Dirt Hawg's (I on the Rear, III on the Front), and need to know what wheel options I have available.

Status: offline 		well i know that the hot bodies wheels will fit. i know that they are with hpi. but they are strictly hotbodies wheels for the shortcourse trucks.

Status: offline 		 I had fit a pair of Traxxas 1/16 Summit wheels on mine. They fit pretty good but they balooned so much that they hit the body when she revved up real high. The rims fit great, but the tires were too soft.
I didn't take any pictures while they were on but this is them on my Tamiya.



This is a trial fitting of my Proline Beetle body (from my Kyosho) on the Shockwave. I just got the new body that I plan to use today.

Status: offline 		Well the main reason I'm looking for new wheels is I like to play in the abandon gravel pits near my house, but after the first attempt at running the Shockwave out there, I figured out real quick that little rocks like to get stuck in the wheels and lock them up. I had to pick rocks out of the wheel spokes about 10 times in my one (and only) run in the pit. I was looking to get some dish wheels and alternate set of tires of alleviate this issue.

WTB a good open track to practice on in the Memphis, TN area :P

I would also like to note that I'm not a huge fan of the "wheel is wider than the tire" look of the stretched out dirt hawgs on the HPI Racing 2.2" Wheels. I guess I'll keep browsing around hobby sites to see if I can find some nice width dish wheels with 12mm hex.

Status: offline 		I gotcha, that helped clear a lot up.

Just find some good 2.2 dish wheels with a slight offset and you should be fine. 2.2 truggy wheels are going to be the way to go. They should be a slight bit bigger in diameter, clearing the steering knuckle. As for tires, I agree, I don't like the stretched look either. Proline makes a Dirt Hawg 2 tire that will fit on regular 2.2 wheels.

Something like these...

With the Dirt Hawg 2s you would be looking at something similar to this.
 
Or you could use Dirt Hawg 1 rear tires. This a set on a Tamiya DF02.
* neither of these are mine.


Either way... strap the tires before mounting them. Bigger tiers will balloon if you don't.

The #2 is the best one.That one took quite awhile to make and paint.It's was done exactly like a car that used to race up here in the 50's.
The 71e and 1 were also done like cars that raced here in the 50's also

And you have to remember these things were raced and bashed before the pictures were taken LOL
