I am converting my Shockwave to a Baja Beetle.

 

The Shockwave itself has been upgraded. It has an SH.18 engine, two speed transmission, a few aluminum upgrade parts, CVD front shafts, aluminum shocks and carbon fiber shock towers (courtesy of rufaster.com). If you ever have to replace your shock towers take a look at the carbon fiber ones. They are half the price of the upgraded aluminum and much stronger than the stock set.

 

I removed the rear tail assembly and I have some body mount post on order (stock Vortex SS post). The body is a Proline Baja Beetle (part # 3238-61).

Status: online 		i like this setup alot! very nice thus far.
if it were mine, i would be tempted to give it a offroad baja look. mount some big lights on the top, maybe some mud flaps or something like that. maybe a big bumper in the front.

the wheels look good with that body, and the wheel base looks almost perfect.

cant wait to see it all painted up!

I am working on bumpers. Not sure if they will work but I also ordered some Vortex bumpers. I am hoping to get them to fit.

 

As for lights, that is an idea to consider. I will have to see how she handles when she is done. If she stays on all four wheels it may be possible to put lights on the top. I just worry about them getting ripped off and damaging the body.

Status: online 		i think proline has a light bar where the lights are completely surrounded, thus protecting them from rollovers!

there are roof racks for rock crawlers that would be cool.
and a skid plate on the front would be easy to fab up!

Status: offline 		were did you get the carbon fiber shock towers..... i have a tornado s30, and i keep bending the **** out of the stupid aluminum ones that come with the car, i want something a little bit more rugged..... that can take the abuse i give it!

Status: offline 		So this is what got done tonight. Body post from a Vortex ss added, front and rear bumpers added (also from a Vortex ss) and more body trimming done.

Can't wait to get some paint on her now.

Status: online 		smart move the the vortex bumper and body posts. looks awsome! the front bumper looks great with the bug body.

will be a very sick looking custom nitro when you are done.

if it were me, i would trim out the rear windows, for motor cooling. and it might give access to the needles without removing the body.

either way, its really a killer looking ride[>:]

Status: offline 		I will probably drill a small in the roof for the glow plug ignitor and if I find that it is running hot I was thinking about trimming out the door windows so that they look like they are open. It may be ok as is, there are big gaps under the fender wells so it may get good air flow.


We'll see.


I think I may need stronger shocks.

Status: offline 		@dragonii, I've noticed you have same size wheel/tires
all around. I tried this but up front the wheel rub against
the knuckle.( I think that's what's call) I have a tornado s30.
Also it's look like the knuckle set up on your "hybrid" is differ
from that of a S30. Question is did you have to modified the
anything to make the wheel fit up front? I have the same wheel
and tire like your.( from hobbypartz) any one with info, please
chime in.

Status: offline 		It's hard to tell in the pictures but the front wheels are slightly more narrow than the rear. I wanted to put the wider rear wheels all the way around but as you said, they rub the steering knucle.


Now that I am getting closer to a finished vehicle I am starting to wonder if I can fit some SCT wheels on it.
I think something like this would look awesome on it.
