    Ed,

Did you ever get a chance to fly your Katana? I'm thinking of getting one for my homeless 160FX. The only problem is, I want to run a mousse can and can't figure out how to do it. I have the CMP Giles, which has a similar engine mounting area, and I'm having a hard time figuring it out. I'm thinking I could mount the engine -90 deg, so to speak, so that the header comes out the top, don't think there's enough room rotated the other way with the header out the bottom, without an extension or something. Anyone have any ideas?

    Thanks,
    Gary

the 160 makes for more than enough power I dont think you need the mousse can for this plane. this motor should spin a 18x4or 18x6 with no problem. saw this plane fly with saito 120 and it was awesome and that was at roughly 5800ft in afon wyoming. good luck with your plane mine is aout halfway done

Lets see if we can revive this thread..

I just purchased this plane from Nitro models it will be here in 3 days.
I have an Os 160 and a Super Tiger 2300 available for this plane, which motor should I use???? I am not a 3d pilot, but I am going to teach myself with this plane.
    What servo's should I use?

Is the Cg correct in the manuel?

Feel free to offer any suggestions

This plane has been sold by GSP, Jet, Chief, Nitro, etc., over a number of years and it is a good aerobatic model when powered by an O.S. 1.60 with Perry VP-30 pump and Bisson Pitts muffler but I wouldn't recommend it for use as 3D trainer.
I bought this Katana back in late 2003 and I have two of them but I've moved on to planes that are specifically designed for 3D.
You may want wait for posts from other people who have a different opinion of this plane and who may be able to give you tips on how to learn 3D with it.

Rocketman...Is the Perry pump necessary? I have never used a pump before.

It is not necessary if you use the standard O.S 1.60 muffler but that big fat heavy muffler is rarely used on scale aerobatic and 3D models.
You will probably use a free-breathing in-cowl Pitts style muffler which may not produce enough back pressure to properly pressurize the fuel tank. The Perry VP-30 fuel pump provides fuel to the engine without the need for tank pressure and prevents the engine from running lean at high throttle settings. It will also allow you to place your fuel tank anywhere you want to in the plane.
Some people will say that their O.S 1.60 runs fine on a Pitts muffler without a pump and from experience I can confirm that to be true but you are more likely to get one that won't. On one fine day when atmospheric conditions are all wrong, you may find that no matter how far you unscrew the needle valve, you will not be able to get it rich enough at full throttle.

My katana arrived a few days ago, delivered by United parcel smashers and to my amazement the box barely had any wear on it.
Upon opening the box everything seemed to be in good shape, but the packing was terrible. There was no foam for protection just plastic bags around all the parts. Even with all that said, teh plane was in very good shape. There where hardly and wrinkles to iron out of the covering.
The manuel has alot of pics of how the plane should be assembled but little words.
