rcpattern -> Extreme Flight Vanquish 2m Build Thread (5/13/2011 1:18 AM)

OK guys....here it is. My Vanquish showed up today in perfect condition. I must say I am VERY impressed with the quality. The finishing job is excellent and all of the weights certainly seem reasonable. Mine will have the recommended Torque Silver Bullet F3A motor from EF, Castle ICE HV 80 ESC, Futaba 9551's on the ailerons, Futaba 9650's on the elevators, and Futaba 9155 on the rudder.

This thing really looks like its going to go together very easily. I'm going to try to take lots of pictures along the way, and if anyone wants to see anything specific, please don't hesitate to ask.

Weights are as follows. I like the fact that the weights are virtually identical to Victor's weights he posted in the other thread, so the quality control seems good. My wing panels were just slightly heavier than his.

Fuse with rudder and canopy 1046
Canopy by itself 176
Left Wing 345
Right Wing 332
Left Stab 82
Right Stab 86
Wing tube 86
Stab Tube 10
Landing Gear 124
Wheel Pants 54
Torque F3A Motor 588

Here are some pics of the fuse. I'll actually start putting things together tomorrow. My only request is that we keep it on topic. I have no control over how many planes Extreme Flight got in, nor when they will be getting an additional batch. I'm just going to do my best to put this thing together and give a detailed flight review and then let everyone I can try it at various contests that I'll be attending. I'm very impressed with the plane, and I think pattern needs this.

vx99 -> RE: Extreme Flight Vanquish 2m Build Thread (5/13/2011 1:37 AM)

thanks for doing a build thread Arch; lots of interested people, i bet.

is the "silver bullet" motor available to the public at the moment?

rcpattern -> RE: Extreme Flight Vanquish 2m Build Thread (5/13/2011 1:57 AM)

Yes, the motor will be available with the planes as far as I know. I know they have more motors coming as well. The cost of the motor is 199.99. So you can get the plane and motor for 850.00 plus shipping.

g_mkoch -> RE: Extreme Flight Vanquish 2m Build Thread (5/13/2011 3:47 AM)

Could you please show pictures of the wing incidence adjusters. Also do you think a Hacker A60-7s v2 would work?

rcpattern -> RE: Extreme Flight Vanquish 2m Build Thread (5/13/2011 1:13 PM)

G_mkoch,

Here is a link to the manual with some really good pictures of the wing adjusters starting at Step 34. I'll get some more detailed pictures when I get there this weekend as well.

I think the Hacker would work fine. The only requirement for how it is currently setup is that it be a rear mounted outrunner. The front is a fiberglass cowl and I don't know how you would strengthen it enough to take a front mounted motor. I like the fact that Extreme Flight recessed the firewall enough to allow motors of various lengths and then provides spacers to help get the correct distance you need.

CashD -> RE: Extreme Flight Vanquish 2m Build Thread (5/13/2011 1:43 PM)

I will be interested to see the numbers on the motor so people with other motors can help us compare it.

rcpattern -> RE: Extreme Flight Vanquish 2m Build Thread (5/13/2011 3:22 PM)

I will post all the information and pictures from the motor once I get it in the air. I will try a couple of different props as well.

Right now I have an APC 20.5X14 and a 21X14 that I plan to try on it,

can773 -> RE: Extreme Flight Vanquish 2m Build Thread (5/13/2011 4:14 PM)

They (Torque/Fury) are pretty much Plett 30-10 Evo copies. You will spin a 21x14 at just over 6k and 80+A static.

rcpattern -> RE: Extreme Flight Vanquish 2m Build Thread (5/13/2011 5:24 PM)

Chad,

Thanks for the info, I'd heard that was the case, but wasn't sure. I'll let you know the results,

Arch

Doug Cronkhite -> RE: Extreme Flight Vanquish 2m Build Thread (5/13/2011 6:18 PM)

Interesting that there's no way to handle the Neu/Hacker inrunners. I guess you have to pick your poison and run with it on the design really.

can773 -> RE: Extreme Flight Vanquish 2m Build Thread (5/13/2011 6:38 PM)

Doug, knowing pattern guys, it wont be long until someone figures a trick way to mount up a C50/Neu/Advance etc. into it :)

Mike Wiz -> RE: Extreme Flight Vanquish 2m Build Thread (5/13/2011 6:55 PM)

Ya know, that shouldn't have to be the case. The distance from the face of the drive plate to the front of the motor could be standardized..... At least among F3A motors, anyway. Then it's just a matter of how to support the rear and as long as that end is addressed properly that aspect should be able to be quite flexable. But heck, look how far we've come! I can hardly wait till next season when I get one of these or an Osiris. I'm not going to jump in now. I just nicely got my Wind 110 setup but I'm very impressed with what I see. I hope these guys sell enough of them to make it work on their end.

1bwana1 -> RE: Extreme Flight Vanquish 2m Build Thread (5/13/2011 11:44 PM)

I don't see a big issue building a mount for the Neu inrunners.  It should work the same as it does on my 78" Extra.

Doug Cronkhite -> RE: Extreme Flight Vanquish 2m Build Thread (5/14/2011 12:52 AM)

Certainly doable.. just not with the stock front end.. Looks like there's more than enough room weight-wise though to get it done and remain under 11 pounds.. which is GREAT!

rcpattern -> RE: Extreme Flight Vanquish 2m Build Thread (5/14/2011 2:36 AM)

I'm sure it can be done, you would just have to build some structure. On the firewall there are 4 blind nuts in the corners that are used for backplate type mounts that are already available for other motors. You could probably build some structure off of those to space it out for the front mount on the Neu or Hacker C50. The Hacker Q80 might be difficult, but I'm sure someone would come up with a way.

rcpattern -> RE: Extreme Flight Vanquish 2m Build Thread (5/14/2011 2:44 AM)

OK, so here is today's progress. I was able to get the motor mounted up. I installed the speed control on the bottom half of the motor box area. Having the chin cowl removable makes this really easy. The spacers provided for the motor worked great, although I did have to modify a couple of the holes to make them line up with the ones on the motor, but not a big deal. I also got the wings and stabs hinged, and also installed the control horns. Someone on the other thread had requested a picture of the spacing between the spinner and front.

Arch,

    Is that prop the new APC 2 x 14?

Mike Wiz -> RE: Extreme Flight Vanquish 2m Build Thread (5/14/2011 5:50 AM)

Hey Arch I was looking at your ESC mount and it reminded me of something I encountered with my Wind. Have you ever found it difficult to get a particular component mounted with velcro and a strap in the location where you want it? And when you mount it with just the velcro and no strap it won stay? I would never mount an ESC this way but I did use hot glue to mount my BECs to the floor in the Wind. It looks neat, it holds well and when time comes to remove them, you just peal them free and rub off the glue with your fingers. It's just a thought.... The Vanquish looks great!

rcpattern -> RE: Extreme Flight Vanquish 2m Build Thread (5/14/2011 7:41 AM)

Mike,

On the underside of the ESC is a small piece of velcro that is stuck to the "floor" and the other part of the hook and loop is on the ESC. It is the sticky back kind. Doesn't take much, but it keeps it from being able to slide around,

Yep, you got it. Performance sucks so far, so I'm still playing, but it is nice for assembly purposes. Maybe it needs more pitch???

mxcop114 -> RE: Extreme Flight Vanquish 2m Build Thread (5/14/2011 1:51 PM)

Looks good Arch, I should have mine done within the next couple days, can't wait to hear your thoughts about it once you get it in the air, I think you're gonna like it.

hezik -> RE: Extreme Flight Vanquish 2m Build Thread (5/14/2011 9:19 PM)

Have you added up all the weights (including servo, drive battery, and so on) to see what you're getting at? From the weights mentioned in the startpost, and taking into account that that engine should do about the same as the plet, you'll need 5000mAh packs, will you keep it below 5kg?

If that engine is indeed a plet copy, you might consider trying/using the RASA props.

rcpattern -> RE: Extreme Flight Vanquish 2m Build Thread (5/15/2011 1:07 AM)

Well, I managed to get mine finished today. Below are pictures of the rest of the process. With the HEAVIEST packs that I own, Turnigy 20C 5000mah, the plane weight 4912g. That is with the heavy plastic spinner, the heavy carbon wing tube, and an APC 21X14 prop. This plane could easily be under 4875 with lighter equipment. There should be NO reason you can't keep this plane comfortably under weight. Flight tests will be tomorrow weather permitting. For those wondering, it took about 7 hours to complete.

Arch Plane looks great.  Looking forward to hearing about the flight and seeing it with the photo model around it. lol
