]I finally got a GoPro HD Cam and I absolutely love the thing.  It is awesome all the way around.  Today is my first video, which I hope to make many more on other aircraft, but for now this is it.

That looks like a great setup! I would really like to see what your camera installation looks like. Could you post pics? How did you get the forward and back looking shots? Was it by just reversing the camera mount on different flights?

Here are the setup photos.  Hopefully they come out well.  Yes, I did just reverse the camera for the facing shots.  I flew three short flights to capture all the angles, front, back, and the ground.  I did not know what I would have until I landed so I had to clip out a bunch of useless video.  Took me a few hours to organize, but overall I am happy.  The sun was going down, so I had to get the flights in quickly.

Awesome James, thanks! Did you have to put in any flight trim to compensate for the drag vectors created by the camera?

Awesome James, thanks! Did you have to put in any flight trim to compensate for the drag vectors created by the camera?

I did have to trim ailerons a bit for sure, and very slightly on the elevator.  If I set the glider on my bench it falls over to one side already, so I put the camera on the other side to use some of that mismatch to my advantage.  It still took some aileron though to keep it trimmed properly.  As for drag and the camera, it was not that noticable, but I am sure it was there.  The glider likes to fly fairly slowly so the drag is not as big of an issue as it would be for a fast airplane.

I also have a cub I want to put it on, but I cooked a motor a week ago (for no apparent reason) and that was captured on video as well (from the air).  You can hear the crunching noise and I could see white smoke in the sky.
Once I get the motor sorted out, I will put the camera on the Fun Cub and I expect to do some inverted flight and more crazy stuff.  I think my gassers would vibrate too much, but I will eventually try them too.

Thanks for the nice words.  It was gusty and hard to keep straight so I can't wait for a nice calm day to try again.
San Diego has been overcast in the mornings, but calm.  As it clears off the winds come with it.  Oh well, it is still a nice 75F so I can't complain too much.

Today was a really close call. We clipped each other in flight it was almost a big bad day! Have to say we were having quite the fun time though.

We fly at Camp Pendleton Marine Base, just north of you.  Are you military/retired military by chance?  We have civilians too, but have reached the cap for this year.
All military are free.  The field is awesome.

Here is our website.  The last tab on the left is the 'contact us' link which shows the email address for the president and club officers.
Everyone is laid back and we fly big gas, nitro, electric, 3D, helicopters, etc.  Everything is welcome here.

What kind of airplanes do you like to fly?

I,m flying gas planes. Right now I have a goldwing MX2 with dle 30 in it. I also have a bigger wildhare edge 540 with a toc-53 in it. I,m not flying the big one right now cause I feel the field at rincon is a little small

Oh you would fit right in with us.  I fly a 100cc Yak and a 50cc Extreme Flight Extra, along with a mixed bag of other stuff from small electrics to helis to sailplanes.
I have to say 3Dish flight is some of my favorite.  Our field is huge since it is a full scale heli landing pad.

Be sure to contact Juan and tell him James mentioned he should get on the list of civilians at the club.  You won't regret it.
In fact in a few weeks you can fly out there as my guest and check out the place if you like.
