Your problem is that you have to cut the side of the cowl to fit around the muffler. You can't mount a DLE 20 in this plane without doing this.

It measures just a hair over 4".

Ken, thanks for the help. Forgot that it needed cut out. Now I'm having a time finding a allen wrench small enough to fit set screw on collars of the tail wheel. What size?

It does require you be able to remove and replace the mount with the engine installed on the mount, but that is not a big issue.

you could make 2 holes in the cheek for the muffler bolts.

No, that still won't work. There just isn't enough room inside the cowl for the muffler to fit without making a cutout.

My mistake, I'm sorry. I thought you were referring to the stock muffler from the post earlier in this tread.

Ken , it's me again.Just wondering if the tank is to be mounted in the cockpit floor, and the elect. ignition between the forword two servo's. Then the receiver could go right in front of the rudder servo. Does this sound right for no interference from the ignition.

I've always set up gas engines to keep the radio components as far away from the ignition system as possible. I moved the throttle servo back to rudder servo tray. Put the fuel tank right over the CG between the rudder servo tray and former F2. And then I put the ignition system on the tray right behind the firewall.

I am doing prett much the same thing; except I am using one of these instead of a ignition battery. I am using a 2300 mil A-123 battery pack.

Is that the "Compact" version (1.25" diameter can) or the regular version (1.5" diameter can)???

I want to get the correct pitts muffler (Especially for $80)

But it is well worth the price to not have to cut the side of the cowl.....

I am always nervious about these......after all they connect the power for the Radio to the Ignition.....if interference makes it to the radio, it can be bad.....

that being said, they are in use everywhere and gaining in popularity (For obvious reasons)........

so if I am still paranoid about this, what is the smallest Ignition Battery I can get away with, and still fly 8 - 10 flights without recharge?

I will use NiMH 4.8v or 6v....whatever is best......

Tom,
I have a 4 cell 2000 Mah Enerloop Nimh in for the ignition in this plane. I have yet to test how long it can go. I know that there are products like the one listed above, but I still prefer to have a seperate battery for the ignition.

Here here.....This plane is not the lightest in it's class, for sure.

I would rather have a seperate switch and battery as well....guess I would not save that much weight going with a 4 Cell 1100 or something....and with the 2000 you do not have to worry about charging the IGN battery, that's for sure.

Thanks, and I am taking notes for our build
