Anyone has any tips for painting the canopy frame? I want to paint my Corsair's Canopy frame, but have no idea, what kind of painting color to be used as it must be fuel resistant and how to paint it easily.

I usually paint my canopies on the inside. I mask them with liquid mask. When the mask dry, I use a sharp x-acto knife to cut and peel away the mask covering the frame, then airbrush the frame using Testor acrylic paint. There are two different colors for the Corsair canopy frame, depending on which color scheme you use. One is the tri-color scheme in which the upper surfaces and the canopy frame are painted Flat Sea Blue, FS 35045. The other color scheme is overall Glossy Sea Blue, FS 15042. Do some research for your particular plane. If you paint your canopy on the outside, then you can fuel proof the paint with a coat of LustreKote clear.

Thank you so much for suggestion. I'll try first and if it's work, the next project, Mustang is waiting...

A warning about Top Flite LustreCote spay paints: they can cause plastic canopies to warp. I found this out the hard way and ruined a canopy. Now I either (A) use a different brand paint and attempt to match covering OR (B) use a light coat of LusterCote on inside framework, then add a cote to the outside framework. Both coats are brushed on, by spraying into a container. The 2 coats almost cancel each other out, with the first coat having a slight edge, but it is better to warp inward than outward.

I use trim stripe.

It's easy to apply, and looks good if you take your time. (on the inside)

What color of lustrecote did you use? I just painted a Beaver canopy white and didnt have a problem. I dont want to ruin any other canopies though.

tks1

I used the dark blue. After I did it, I read in several places that LustreCote was not recommended for painting canopies, UNLESS it was allowed to set or cure for a few minutes before applying. I think even the label warns against it, but I'm not at home now so I can't check.
