If your not posting that means you actually have been getting a lot done..... to me that is a good sign !
Looking forward to some cockpit progress.
Your scratch built oil coolers will arrive friday. Let me know if they need to be adjusted in any way.

They came today Pappy!!!!!! Brian worked on getting them in today. We discussed what color they should be inside and decided on the Green Zink Chromate. We will leave the fins natural aluminum and they will just get the overspray from the outside colors as well as some filth for good measure.

I'll have some pictures very soon. I held one inside and it just blows you away how good it looks.

BTW, we still have room behind them for a speaker almost 4" in diameter. Very cool.

Outstanding ! I was pretty worried about the fit & proportions considering, I've never had the pleasure of even seeing a CARF Corsair in person. Please let me know if any improvements can be made to help out.

You did a great job. I hope our paths cross so you can see this one in person. If you do see one out there, you will be impressed with many things about it, but not the stock intakes. I have a Parkzone foam Corsair that has better looking intakes (that work, BTW).

That the corsair at Miramar air museum. I believe they have it done up as a night fighter version with canon like the F4u-5n with a radar housing dome on the starboard wing. What is Pappy doing for you? The gear details? Can hardly wait to hear your gun system.

Here are those wonderful intakes Pappy. You should be very proud buddy.

We added the green zinc paint, and the flat black behind the grill. The only chance we made was to use aluminum foil, for the strap across the grill.

The fit was amazing for having built them on the other side of the country and never having seen one of these planes in person.

They are not permanently installed yet, but will be this week end.

Gary and Pappy,

It is possible for myself to order a pair of intakes as well?

Sure is so nice and seeing them in Gary's I don't think I could finish my CompARF without them.
Please let know. You can email me at radu@mac.com or call at (408) 504-6826

Thanks

Hello Michael. I know what you mean. The intakes are a prominent feature on the Corsair and don't usually get the attention they deserve.

I would suggest you PM Pappy.

I will tell you that the grills for the coolers are speaker covers from speakers we found at Radio Shack. They are very close to the exact scale hole count per sq. inch. I'll post the part# later. They are painted aluminum, so it is easy to sand them and get the look you see.

We will document the installation so all of you who would like to try the same thing can save some time figuring that part out. Remember, we have a large hatch on the bottom of the wing that make it very easy to slide them in. Just as with the full scale coolers, these are quite a bit larger that the opening, so they can not be slid in through the front.

Thanks Gary,

Just sent a PM to Pappy. Also for blazing a trail for me to follow.
Looking forward to more and that part number.

I'm working with Best Pilots to get a 4.5 scale pilot of Pappy check out his site and let me what you think.

It is our pleasure Michael.

Yes, I know the site and his wonderful work. I suggested to him some time back that he make some larger scales available. At the time he was very busy already. Glad to here he is going larger. His pilots are top shelf. He does some pretty cool other stuff as well.

Very very nice looking ship. You did a wonderful job on the finish and markings. I like the 'in service' look you gave her. It didn't take long for those birds to look pretty weathered. They were outside in all kinds of weather. Nice job.

Hi Gary,

The oil coolers came out great. I agree that they are an item that often doesn't get the attention they deserve.

Great job guys! I have been looking for something to use for the oil cooler, now I have that taken care of! I am going to use your ideas on my sliding canopy also. Keep it up, you are saving me a lot of head-scratching

Glad to help. I have learned a lot from others, via the internet and personal conversations, and enjoy the opportunity to do the same for my peers when possible.

Sliding canopies are something I see omitted many times, and often for technical reasons. It is usually a fair amount of work, sometimes frustrating to get just right, often not as hard as it looks, but ALWAYS a very rewarding accomplishment when it comes together.

I'd like to share Joe's work on the break drums.

This is the prototype version that will be mounted in the Corsair.
