Great, looking forward to it. Are you able to get the doors flush against the wing when the gears are up?

I think that the door mod you did really completes the look of this Corsair...

Fairly close but to get an better fit would require the molding of new doors as the area isn't perfectly flat, the doors are. It's fine for what it is.

It was my understanding that H9 discontinued the 60 corsair. Was considering getting a 50 but if I had the choice...I prefer the 60. I will have to call Horizon and see if they are going to reissue the 60. Anyone have any feedback on it?

I have them on mine. The model is trimmed for flight with the gear up, as are all my warbirds. All of them have retracts, and only a couple have enough pitch response to notice. I've not even bothered to do a mix on any of those.

On my retract gear models, I've always taken the extra minute after everything is said and done, to check the CG locations with the gear up and the gear down. It's no effort and takes no time at all, and worth knowing. Setting the CG with the gear up for a Corsair, P40 or F6F is the safer choice since that puts the weight of the struts and wheels aft and biases the CG location a touch aft. It is only a touch, since the mass is almost dead on the CG as it is. When the gear is down on those aircraft, the CG is barely shifted a touch forward, which is more stable after all.

I've gone through a number of those EFlites but the latest pair is still working. However, in spite of the model being a bit under 7.5lbs and well within the advertised weight range for those EFlites, simply flying off a grass field has resulted in one strut bending every outing.

If there were an alternative available, those things would be swapped out right now.

Tower has just now dropped the price on their TF 60 Gold Box ARF $100.00 dollars. I'm picking up one at the LHS this morning when they open the doors in a couple of hours. It is the size of the H9 Corsair. Doesn't have the ugly H9 wing messup where they misfit the wing to the fuselage and it sticks out on either side before starting the gull dip. I've flown my H9 60-size since April '08 and that ugly isn't visible when it's flying. In fact, it flies like a dream and is fast as well, but it looks terrible no matter how it flies.

The 50 flies just as good as the H9 60. They are basically the same weight. The 50 is only a touch smaller. When I get the TF in the air, I figure to get rid of the H9.... maybe.... it is a Corsair after all, at least in the air.... and it flies so good. It's ground handling on grass is lame of course. Oh for some reliable 100s.

The 50 handles on the ground excellently. However, the EFlite gear really leaves a lot to be desired for dependability. Unfortunately, I'm not sure the 50 would handle anywhere as nicely with 90degree gear, and I'm not about to put fixed gear in any retract gear plane.

That is a good deal on the TF corsair. I wish Robart would put out an electric gear for the 50 sized plane. The E-Flite gear doesn't hold up at all. I went back to fixed gear.

Some paint and a little weathering can transform it in the best looking ARF in the field!

Thanks Rock for the input. I looked at the TF corsair, its a nice machine. It would cost a bit more to get it airworthy, but it would probably be woth it in the long run.

DaRock, I feel Ya, man. I sent 3 sets back to Horizon. I talked with their tech guys and explained everything that was going on and that the screw shaft that moves the gear out was way to small. They never questioned My sending the retracts back, they just sent a new set each time with a note that read, "shaft broken- replaced with new retract set".
What really irked Me was the fact that the retracts would allow me to take-off and would not cycle properly once the Corsair was in the air. I would then have to belly land it with the one gear hanging down... refer to previous post in the forum. The forth set, I didn't even put in the plane. I took the back to the LHS and hung the plane from the ceiling.
Like You, Rock, I will not fly a warbird with fixed gear. Looks tacky. I have tried to find and alternative that would work but all I came up with was a set of 40size mechanicals but I will have to open the bottom of the wing and make all new base for it.. Way to much trouble for now. Other than the retracts, this bird was a great flier. I hope I can afford one soon that flies as good as it did. TJ

I just received this plane and the electric retracts as a Christmas present and i have a few questions. First, I have a new Saito 14B gas engine w/ inverted Slimeline Pitts style muffler that I would like to use in this plane. The mounting template included only allow for the engine to be mounted at an angle, does anyone have a recommendation or template on how i can install this engine inverted?

Also, I'd really like to change the markings to another aircraft using aftermarket decals but I'd like to know the best way to safely remove the stock decals/stickers without damaging the covering. Any thoughts or recommendations on how to do this?

Cheers,

Mark

No problem removing the markings. Just pick at a corner 'til it's raised, then peel from there. If it tears the marking you're peeling, or is really hard to remove, hit it w/ a little heat. They'll come off fine and you can clean off any residue w/ rubbing alcohol. If the residue won't come off w/ rubbing alcohol, use a little Monokote Trim Solvent on it. That stuff'll take off anything!
And don't worry about damaging the underlying surface. I do this all the time and have never had a problem w/ damaging the surface. Just don't plan on reusing the ones you peel off, tho! That ain't gonna work.
Callie at CallieGraphics can make up anything you want.
Good luck.
Al
(I'd post a pic or two of mine, but RCU is having one of its periodic hissy fits and won't allow it....)

Hi all!

i want share with you my effort to improve the look of this nice ship.
i was very impressed by the job Aeroscale did on his mustang and texan, so i focused myself on the cockpit.

the pics here below show my progress; at this point few parts are still to be made, but next time pics will show everything.
still missing are the gun sight, and a couple of box.
the pilot cames from CJM, with some improvements, cause the poor quality (it should be the 1/7 scale)
the consolles and the main panel cames from a HQ pic of a real one used on FSX
material used are balsa & plasticard painted with humbrol enamel

the plan is cut the canopy and fix it open .... i have to fix really well everything!!!!
sorry for the poor quality of these pics, taken with a BB

this small warbird is set up as follow.
- os71FS
- futaba 2.4ghx 617 rx
- futaba gear all around
- e-flite rotating retracts & stock wheels

everything but the cockpit is out of the box, but probably i'll paint the airframe with 2k matt
