Status: offline 		Today's Spitfire fighter sweeps were flown in bright sunshine with some light white haze down sun that actually allowed the plane to disappear briefly at altitude. Fortunately, control was eventually regained and flown closer during the remainder of the mission.

My Spit performed flawlessly with it's 19 degree angle deflected split flap system again today. The battery compartment was hollowed out enough to allow slightly larger shaped 22,500 mAh 30C batteries to fit.

It's just a matter time now and my landing skills should begin to improve to an acceptable level.

Status: offline 		Just did my first three flights today. What a beautiful plane! My struts are not here yet for my retracts but it flew great with the fixed gear. A park flyer it is not! Uses a lot of real estate in a hurry!

Was very surprised at the flight time on the standard battery. My last flight was almost 7 minutes and used less than half the battery.

I flew at a park that was none too large and had to land between rows of trees. No problem. The plane handles great and was very controllable. Hope to get my retracts in soon!

Status: offline 		Thanks for your post, rexbirk. I wanted to accomplish something that might be useful for budding model fighter plane pilots before posting anything. I wasn't sure whether our Spit was as fast as I thought or maybe it was a case of lack of practice. Your observations convinced me of the reality of the situation.

I finally developed a useful procedure for landing nicely that I must share. For needed practice I am now spending most of my flying time setting up for landings. After the alarm goes off I now feel very confident to bring the ship in fast enough for a main gear touch down, chop the throttle quickly upon touch down and apply full up elevator to keep the tail down.

I am sort of a "circle flyer" now and probably will continue to be untill I get enough practice as indicated above to feel confident enough about my landing performance. I used to be a real circle flyer back in my control-line flying days. I have been trying to locate counter-rotating fans for a three-in-one ducted fan version of the Wharton flying wing fighter that could be used as an RC flyer, a control-line precision aerobatics simi-scale competitor, and a full stunt pattern capable whip powered demonstrator. So far, I haven't been able to find the fans that can produce the 20 plus ounces of thrust I will need.

And finally, if I haven't been taken out of the fight by then, I will be installing my retracts as soon as I am comfortable with super light Thorium Plasma Batteries powering my equipment. At the moment my Spit is perfectly tuned for my present tastes - can't stand the idea of adding any more ugly weight. Those thorium batteries should be light enough to easily allow the extra weight of retracts, if I don't get too greedy for power.

Status: offline 		I can literally feel your pain. There are enemies of modeling because of its dangers to the status quo that is committed to the distruction of Western Civilization. I have to fight hackers all the time. Today, I had to run a security scan before I could type this.

Please check out the Spitfire Brotherhood thread (URL in above "Post sig) that seems to be providentially fighting for the values that will ultimately win. I hope to still be around to savor the victory. In the meantime I am commited to continue the fight as long there is any strength at all left in my trigger fingers!

The key to victory seems to be PERSEVERANCE. In addition to external enemies we also have an internal "fifth column" of cultists who, at least in the past, have a very narrow minded view of modeling and have actively opposed making modeling "culturally relevant." My CALL TO GLORY" web site documents how some of them have been wiped out. There are secret "forces" involved in catching hackers. Part of my mission is to draw "fire" and give the good guys a chance to pick them off as they expose themselves when attacking me. Some of my "hacker battles" have lasted literally for hours. We are on the winning side!

There is a whole lot more to modeling than toys.

I may be over the negative influence of the injustice perpetrated against me enough now to seriously consider joining you with my very own Butcher Bird, especially if you are not taken out by enemy forces. Status: offline 		You've done such a beautiful job on your Spit that I am now inspired to put invasion stripes on my Mk IX Spit also. Just this morning I finally figured out a process that I think will work to add my favorite, irresistible "Spitfire tiger shark mouth" on my Spit.

Your work is so neat I'm sure the Spitfire Brotherhood (All Spitfires Welcome) would really appreciate a post from you to help inspire it to continue its heoric mission above and beyond the call of duty. Unlike the fighter threads here, there is an unconquerable spirit and underlying commitment that keeps it droning on toward the target regardless of flack or fighters.

Yes, I will own a model B-17 at some point in the future once the war torn skies are substantially free of enemy fighter attacks. In the meantime air superiority must be attained and maintained at all costs!

POSSIBLE USEFUL ANTI-VIBRATION TIP

One of my recent Spitfire flights included a power dive that made an "interesting" sound near the end of the dive. In view of the obvious problem I ran into with my new Corsair I added the same CA and Baking Soda "tack glueing/stiffening" concept that works so well on the F4U-1A to the Spit. I may lose that sound I thought was so neat now but the ship may last a lot longer if I can live without that sound. The Spitfire uses a lower diamater, lighter prop so the fact that it has slightly more "flexing" than the F4U now, but less than it had before being treated, I am confident in its present structural performance.

Status: offline 		I had a severe diving issue when I maidened mine. I was lucky to get it down with minor damage. I believe my issue was related to the CG being off on my plane when I set it up via the guidelines in the manual. I have had some suggestions and am going to try them this weekend, weather permitting.

flying_low, this plane is probably my very best flying fighter compliments of it's extra tail feathers that are easy to get used to; I did sand a little off the back top area of the rudder to make it look a little more like full scale shape. I have a "thing" about tails, sorry about that. In stock condition you have very nice scale like flying performance. Installing a 40 Amp ESC and using a 12X8 E ACP provides all the vertical performance I could ever dream of needing.

There is vastly more than meets the eyes with this most beautiful all possible fighter planes. Please check out the "post signaure" above and, hopefully, here if I can get my mouse to work like it should.

Chucksolo makes a good point. I (blush) crashed on my maiden because I failed to have sufficient up elevator trim, and by the time I figured out my problem the ship was already spread out over the soccer field I had been flying on.

Just discovered a new PZ Mk IX Spitfire adventure that just might turn out to be a lot of fun. The idea started with the discovery of how I intend to enjoy the FlyZone FW-190 (report on this forum). It turns out that the PZ Messerschmitt three bladed prop pulls "only" a few more Amps than the high performance 12X8 APC E prop that will always be kept readily available in case of being needed for flight under marginal flying conditions. The scale looking three bladed prop really looks great on my Spit and enjoys a better than one to one thrust to weight ratio at around 35 Amps. A simple adjustable 19 gage wire throttle limit system is used to "adjust" maximum burst current by preventing the throttle stick from moving beyond a predetermined limit. The "fun" part will be the challenge of staying inside a safe power perfomance envelope while performing exciting combat and other fun aerobatics maneuvering.

I have a hunch that the most modern PZ fighter motors can handle the extra performance I crave. We shall see. In the meantime, reporting on the "Blaze" TV channel and in Peter Lindemann's News Letter (easily Googled) indicate that new energy technology is about to "break out." This could mean that super performance batteries for our "aeroplanes" could be a much closer reality than we think!

Status: offline 		Hey Mad Web, how is your FZ Focke-Wulf FW 190 flying. I flew mine on it's 50th mission yesterday and she flies as well as when she was new. I finally got my retracts to stay up in flight and locked when landing; she is a joy to fly and I usually put her up first or second out at the field. I have a brand new second one that I haven't maidened yet. I will fly the new one when my original fails to return home from a mission.

I enjoy the reporting on your butcher bird! I hope you won't let anyone discourage your enthusiasm. Below is a glimpse of my mission with the FW 190. My decades long quest to help make modeling an inseparable part of science enrichment education may finally be in the process of being realized. My PC is behaving very badly right now. It will be interesting to see if my message will post. SUCCESS!!! You would never believe how hard it was to get this posted.

Because of my poor landing skills I plan to reinforce the nose section of my butcher bird like I have done on my newest PZ killer size F4U Corsair to endure belly landings on areas where (ROG) is not practical. Because I love the way the 190 looks on its landing gear (like it is not about to tip over like so many other fighters do) I plan to take off with extended gear (ROG) and belly land until I can learn to land gracefully with my other fighters first.
Although I have two bladed props that can easily provide the required vertical peformance with the stock motor that I must have for my flying demo routine, I've already bought a new "POWER .25 870Kv Outrunner Motor" to use with my beautiful Meserschmitt 3 bladed props that can provide the necessary excitement I crave from such a fighter as this.
It will possibly be a while before I can get the above action going because I have determined to complete a working example of the "Bedini School Girl" (can be Googled) along with thousands of other free energy fans as a part of the now no longer secret energy revolution. I will try hard to not weaken, but it could be too much for me to handle, especially if a new killer size Park Flyer Zero is introduced by ParkZone/Horizon Hobby people.

PC is acting up gotta go.

Status: offline 		My best impressions of the dandy new ParkZone Corsair are located on the "ParkZone F4U-1A; BNF and PNP" thread on this forum. I love the way it looks with its fuel tanks and landing gear hanging down in the breeze while putting her through her paces in the air. I may eventually add flaps but am not in any rush to do so, especially since I have her set up with the realistic looking three bladed prop that has limited vertical performance compaired to my best two bladed props. I can't resist bringing out the original PZ F4U and enjoying it also when the new bird is flown. It's a nostalgia thing. The new ship is obviously better quality. It doesn't have a retractable tail wheel like your new bigger F4U beauty does but that's okay for me since I don't think I will ever need retracts on it. [My memory about that tail wheel turned out to be really fuzzy - see next post.]

I'm Looking forward to learning about your new Whistling Death machine. I wonder if hand launching would be practical with it. My HH Hawker Hurricane is much too heavy and awkward to even think about hand launching it. All of my PZ fighters can be comfortably hand launched.

Remember to check six. It's always the one you don't see that gets you.

Status: offline 		No, way too big to hand launch. It doesn't have a retractable tail wheel unfortunately, but the main gear is pretty cool with the doors and all. I'll report my impressions on it.

Status: offline 		Enjoyed a fun Spitfire fighter sweep last weekend. On my next aerial engagement using the same great looking PZ 109 three bladed prop used on the Spitter, and the same procedures to minimize the potentially destructive power of flying too long at the "war combat emergency power" setting (35 plus Amps), I hope my new F4U-1A Corsair can be made to fly my favorite test maneuvers (square loop with rolls on the flat sides & outside loop) as well as my Spit can. I probaby will not use these three bladed props for much more than taxiing, takeoff, touch and go/landing practice, and other mild maneuvering practice with these planes. I might check to see what kind of performance is possible with the three blader at 1-2 miles density altitude on my next trip over the Continental Divide. In the meantime high performance APC E props will normally be used for the usual banking & yanking fighter plane maneuvering.

The hot Spitfire burned through the rubber covering on the 40 Amp ESC (added after tests with the stock ESC) capacitors and on a spot on the other side that I didn't see until I removed the ESC. I ended up adding even more ventilation before the final test flight with the three bladed prop. Since I can't detect the visual difference between two and three blade props in the air where I intend to fly most of the time the two bladers are the winners on these ships. Not so for two (2) of my irresistible .25 powered PZ Messerschmitts. The extra power of the 25s easily allows the use of the three bladed props in any air fighting scenario.

Hi bray, I assume you are asking about the three bladed Messerschmitt prop discussed above. The answer is yes. I highly recommend you use a current meter if you use the three bladed prop and rig a system on your transmitter to limit maximum Amps to around 35. I also recommennd that the stock 30 Amp ESC be replaced with a 40 Amp ESC. One more recommendation is that the larger props be carefully balanced using a sensitive magnetic prop balancer.

FINAL FINE TUNED SPIT

Enjoyed three (3) "Spitfire flying days" recently where the temperature was warm enough to fly dressed in my "Spitfire Brotherhood" T-shirt. I found it necessary to modify the battery compartment so as not to accidently install the battery too far forward. In addition to the marks and note reminding me where to place the battery I finally added a well ventilated sponge plastic spacer for use in front of the battery to force me to place the battery correctly. I had just pleasantly experenced putting up three enjoyable flights with the TF F6F "Cat" that requires the batteries to be located as far forward as possible - habits can be tricky. Thinking correctly can be a blessing. I found it to be very unnerving to fly my Spit with the CG too far forward.

With my split flap system adjusted a little over 20 degrees deflection down, (flap area is restricted to the wing only - none under the fuselage) that it now seems possible to fly as slow as my F6F on landings. It also seems practical to hang it out as slow as the F6F up in the thermals "motor powered glider style."

ParkZone's Spitfire is a real winner!
