If you have a plane that leaves the ground too soon because of the wing incidence do you raise the trailing edge or lower it??

mmmmm, if the plane fly perfectly I wouldn't touch the wing inncidence in case of premature liftoff, but I would change the airplane ground attitude. just lower a bit the nose by using a smaller noseweel for example

I guess the question I would ask is ........ how do you know the premature liftoff was due to incidence of the wing if you arn't too sure which way to adjust it?? You need to know more before adjusting the incidence.

Is the CG correct, is it a well proven design that works well for others, what kind or motor compared to the weight of the plane do you have, etc.......

Incidence of the wing is defined as the angle the wing makes with a reference line on the fuselage. If the leading edge is up then that is a positive incidence. That in itself is not too meaningful unless you have a tail that has an angle relative to the reference line.

The incidence angle can be most anything and not affect the lift off of the airplane.

The wing angle of attack relative to the wind or airplane velocity vector is a meaningful number. If the angle of attack of the wing is too large it can make a takeoff possible at a much lower airspeed (really struggle off though). The ideal angle of attack is one that keeps the speed up and maintains controlability. Too much angle of attack means you go too slow and control degrades. There is no one number though, just one that is a lot of compromises.

Back to your question, if the plane is lifting off at the lower airspeed limit of controllability then you need to raise the takeoff speed. Lower the angle of attack of the wing by........

changing raising the trailing edge a bit or lowering the leading edge a bit or

as was noted change the ground attitude a little more nose down.

If possible talk it over with an experienced RCer in your area, the things that I mentioned will affect this and perhaps he can give some good advice.

I agree with the above post, except that as I mentioned in my first one, changing the angle of incidence of the wing is not a good idea if the plane fly great once airborne. by changing the wing incidence without changing the stab incidence you will definitly change the plane behaviours in flight. realtion between wing and stab incidence is VERY important (in a fact the pitch down moment of the wing need to be compensate by a certain amount of pitch up moment of the stab)

Thankx for the replys. We were guessing wing incidence because not only did the plane leave the ground on its own before proper speed was built up but then it climb like crazy. The only way to counter it was to use a lot of obvious down trim on the elevator which looked out of whack when the plane was sitting on the ground!!
