Has anyone been through this?  I was given a G45 that has not been run in about five years, It needed an ignition coil so I figured since it was given to me and a new ignition module was almost the cost of the conversion kit, I would do an ignition conversion. I bought the RCXel unit from agaperacing. It looks straight forward, but some times you never know. I'm thinking of leaving the spring start on initially until I get this thing running correctly on a test stand.

I have used the RCXEl conversion kits. It is as easy as it looks and it shouldn't take you more that 30 minutes to convert the 45 over. You need a gear puller to get the flywheel off.
You won't need the spring anymore, the E.I. will make it obsolete.

I used this method to get the flywheel off since I didn't have a flywheel puller. Got this off the C&H website.

To remove the flywheel, take off the nut, reinstall the hub snuggly, then screw in the long propeller bolt until the flywheel
pops off. Save the hub and attaching parts.

Hello Tx_RcFlyer - I know it has been awhile since this post but I was curious as to your results? I am in a similar situation right now. I just came accross an old G45 that is somewhat stubborn to start but runs well when it does. Did you notice any performance/power gains? What kind of weight reduction did you get? Any other things to consider?

There will be little extra power

Little weight loss because of the weight of the batteries

But the engine will be easier to start.

Exactly as W8ye said.  But I tell you, with that spring start and electronic ignition, that's the cats meow when it comes to starting an engine.   I have a G-62 and I just did the same conversion on it. Still need to put it on the engine stand and run it, but I don't expect any problems based on my experience with the G-45
