Has anybody ever built one of these model aeroplane's ? These seem to be old kits and finding the motor/gearbox for it took a lot of investigation. But the 7-8 NiMH min.720 mAh cell battery pack for it is proving impossibe to find. Can any other battery pack be used instead for this Spitfire model? This uses a 300/6V motor (Griebel) and a Griebel 1:7.7 gearbox

I think it is better to use a brushless system and lipo battery. Don't invest in 'old' stuff, allthough it might be cheap to buy now.

What kind of prop was suggested to use with the plane/motor combo? I think a Hobbyking brushless motor from the 'blue wonder' series should work if you can keep the plane light. A 2S ~700mAh battery and a brushless esc and you are all set. You need a 7x3 or 8x4 prop with this combo

I have already bought a brushed motor but after reading about it, I regret not buying a brushless motor. I did not realize that brushed motors are an old idea. I am about to purchase a 2S ~ 1500 mAh Lipo battery but that seems too powerful to me. The minimum battery pack for this Spitfire needs to be 720 mAh according to the plane instructions.  Each of the three people I have asked about a battery pack for my foam Spitfire have suggested using a 2S ~ 1500 mAh battery but that seems to be a big jump from the minimum of 720 mAh. The prop for this Spit is a 4-blade FSK 236/200. The 2S Lipo sounds good. The problem with the instructions for this Spit is that this foam model is old, and the ideas that came with it. The gearbox was difficult to find, but I found one in the end. I could have bought a bigger and cheaper Parkzone Spit ready to fly,  but they do not look as good as this Stryro Kit Foam plane does. I will try the choice of parts you suggested to me. I am not so vain as to believe that if I am not careful with the RC bits I fit into this Spit it is guaranteed to fly. I know this Spit, as lovely as it is, has the aerodynamics of a 'brick'.

I finished the Styrospit with a 2c 1500mAh-30C Lipo and it is roaring to go.
