For what it's worth...I remember when I had my R120 how it stood up to abuse because it was in 2-3 crashes and nothing was broken on the motor and I never really thought about it until I crashed my Snap 21 using an OS 120SurpassIII w/pump and it broke the carb, the head, and bent both pushrod covers. So I got online and looked up the parts and it was going to cost $250.00-$300.00 and I was really disappointed at how fragile it was. Now My Saito 180 was in 2 crashes before I got it in a trade and it has been it 2 more planes and was mounted on my WM Super Stunts 60 that flew out the back of my truck at 70 mph and smashed onto the interstate and I watched in the rear veiw as the fuse brokre into many crumpled pieces but the motor was fine...minus a few pavement burns. I am not saying the OS is a bad motor but the crash was not serious at all and it was in a cowled plane so...go figure. As I remember, the R120 had almost nothing sticking out very far beyond the width of the motor do it was able to withstand more abuse/crashes. It may sound like I crash a lot but I fly a lot so the more you fly the worse the odds get.
Pics of the Super Stunts 60 getting the 180 on it are at the link below.

Tim -

8K with a 16/6 is fine! 15% would add about 2 - 4K but save that until you start flying. Then experiment with Fuel, plugs, and props according to your aircraft type.

Enjoy.

Phil

Hello Steve Cambell2,

I have the 1.55R in a GP Giles 202 (1/4 scale). I use a 16-8 APC, it tacks about 9000 rpm. Vertical is not unlimited but it will do very tall loops and stall turns.

I guess I should have ran my 1.20 a bit longer before thinking it fixed. The vibration is still there. Everything else checks out but the wore out needle and spray bar. I think Phil's info about periodically changing these is dead on.

jabowil,

Thanks for the info.

What kind of fuel consumption are you getting?

Steve

Steve

Using the tank that came with the Giles ( 400 cc or ~ 14 oz) I fly about 10 minutes and then land with about 2 - 3 oz. or so left in the tank. I intend to install a larger tank when I get round to it.

Fyi, I have also added a Cline regulator and an on board glow driver.

Okay, thanks.

I decided on the Laser 150, and ordered one. But Doug's in Maryland has a killer special on the Enya R155 through the end of the month, so I think I'm gonna get one of them as well.

Steve,

Doug's hobby doesn't list Enya engines on their website.

Could you email the price to me?

I recently acquired a used Enya 120 4C. It has a black valve cover and air bleed type carb. No other identification on crankcase. Can anyone tell me if this is a 120R or an earlier model? Sorry cannot post a picture.

Thanks.
Andrew

Andrew, turn it over and see what numbers are stamped on the bottom of the engine mounting lugs.

If the lettering "ENYA 120 4C" are raised not stamped then it's the "R" model. Otherwise it's a regular. The "R" model also has a larger crankshaft thread.

The R120 4-C has 8X1mm thread and is a big block engine, same size case as the 155. The 120 has 7X1mm thread and is the same size as the .90 4-C

Thank you kindly for the quick responses. Based on your information, my engine is the small block earlier model, not the R120. It has terrific compression and appears to be in excellent condition. I am thinking of installing it on a Stinger 120.

Eyefly,

The smaller 120 has about the same power as a new Saito .91 but weighs 9 oz. more. You will be running a 14X6 or 15X6 prop, max. It would be a good long lasting engine in a .60 size scale plane that needs some nose weight.

Hi Guys,

I have also acquired a used original Enya-120, and mine has certainly had a few 'incidents' as it has fin damage etc - but still runs fine.

It must have been superb when this model was released - but perhaps down on power in comparison to current designs.

One thing that is obvious - apart from being based on the Enya 90 block - is that the inlet manifold & carb throat diameters are SMALL!

I intend to fit a new manifold with a taper to a marginally larger carb - and measure any increase in top end RPM...

I'm sure it will work, but I would definitely agree these engines are built to last..!

Anybody tried this?

Stars:

I don't know what size carb your Enya has on it, but 4c engines don't respond well to larger carbs without changing the valve timing to make use of it.

Usually you just get worse throttle response by going to a larger carb.

Bill.
