It is time to add another Apache to the Fleet.

Mart and I have been talking about getting one of his Apaches across the pond and the wait is almost over. Here are a few pictures of the Apache taking shape. We hope to get this baby wet by next month.

If anyone is interested in the gel and cloth layup details for this beauty I'm sure Mart will be happy to reply here.

Hey Leo you dont hang about lol.
I plan on joining the deck to the hull today,ill take a few pics as i go and you can post em here if you like.Blacks the worst colour when doing this job as you cant see a dam thing lol.
Should be a really nice hull when done,carbon goes up the sides not just in the bottom on this one and looks great.

For those interested on the layup the rough specs are bellow.
Black gelcoat
Chopepd mat
Biaxial cloth
Carbon
All done wet on wet in one go to save weight

I am not able to spend as much time on RCU as have in the past. With vacation, work, home, clubs and other projects my free time is very limted. This week have two visitors in my office from the Bahamas for two days and next week I will be helping out a sales rep from our corprate office. I do try to stop in at least once a day and read thru the new post just to keep current.

Yes I think that carbon is going to be somethng special. She should make us both very proud.

Hi Leo heres a few pics taken in the sun earlier,just need to trim the hatch and do a little polishing and shes done.She weighs in at 9lb4oz without the hatch hope you like all i can say is its shiny and hasnt been polished yet just wiped clean

.Also posted a pic of the deck after gluing before i removed the masking tape,once this had set i flipped her on her nose and installed the 2" glass tape in the bow to midships this is the worst job,once thats done its easy to do the rest.Gonna kick back and have a few beers and ill get the hatch sorted tomorrow.

That is one great looking lady. At 9lb 4oz she is perfect. Yes I remember when I had to tape the seam on the AM, it wasn't a bit of fun at all. She will look really nice sitting next my baby. Excuse the poor quality picture. Her photo shoot will be sometime in September.

Have an extra pint on me.

Yea dont think she will fit in there though mate

Taping the seam is something that gets easier the more times you do it,easiest way i find is tip the boat on end paint the seam with resin and dangle the tape and manouvre it with a brush on a stick ,i find it easier to cut the tape to length then in half and do the front halves first then put the boat on her side and do the rest.You can also dip the tape in resin first if you use gloves, just roll it up dip it then unravel it inside the tipped up hull and work it into place.

I thought I had updated this thread. Mart shipped the Apache last week and it arrived safe and sound six days later. After 12 hours she is all rigged up. Here are some pictures of her maiden run today. I am very happy with the outcome.

Length 58”

Weight 9 lbs 4 oz

Mart’s build quality is exceptional

Zero flex on the upper deck along with all other parts of the hull

The transom is ½” thick and the wood goes much higher than others

The stringers appear to be of the same grade plywood and are extremely sturdy and glassed firmly

The seams are glassed completely around the entire perimeter

Setup was straight forward with no surprises

Running impressions with a mildly modified engine:

She ran straight with no steering adjustment required

I set her up with -5 degree on the stinger (I need to adjust CG slightly I think)

Trim tabs are not a must in chop but in flat water and at full speed she rocked slightly (looks like I will be adding tabs)

Testing will continue

Yes on the hatch, it wouldn't take much I made some modifications so it would fit. Mart we will talk about that and the setup a bit later on. Maybe I missed something??? Started at 0 but she danced around to much.

Not that I needed to tell you but you have a winner.

Before adding trim-tabs ....

PLEASE .. balance the hull in L > R direction first ,

than add 250gr (extra) to counteract prop-torque .

I think your 'rocking' will be over by than.

And of course ... a sharp prop is a must.

If you need a "how-to..." on balancing L > R with pictures , just send me a email.

Hi Leo,nice vid seems to be running well for a first outing.Im sure with some fine tuning on the balance and stinger you will have her running how you want.Let us know how you get on with Hedricx suggestions.
Be nice to see some pics of the inside as suggested and also the hardware etc.I will say the hull does benefit from turn fins,it really helps smooth out turns at speed,she will turn at full tilt then with no hopping in the turn.

Yes it does. Mart and I have tried to find a way to get them over here and still make them competitively priced. As we found out the shipping cost alone are almost $300 US per hull. The only way around that would be to crate several at once to spread out and cover shipping cost. Even doing so the shipping was calculated at about $100 per hull.

The build time was generous on my part, it actually took less but then again most of it was ready to switch over from my other hull. It didn’t hurt that this was my 10^th or 12^th Apache build.

I'm including some of the under hood pictures, nothing special…

Yes we are very lucky to have such a great club lake to practice and compete on. We currently have about 50 members and will be hosting another District 3 race in November. If the economy doesn’t keep folks away we expect over 150 boats to compete.

67 or 68 are Stangs are my favorite years !

Nice job on the new Apache very clean look in side and out .
Man shipping sucks. Big bucks to get that hull here ! $100 beats $300 though !
