Hi Mike,
I bought three of your 5945 servos and immediately noted that two of the output gears color was black while the third one was an aluminum color. While I thought it odd I didn't have a problem with it till I tried to mount a Air Wild arm on it. The other two (black colored) servos allowed for the arm to install easily but had to give up on the third one.
Whats up??? I am anxious to fly but must fix this first.
Awaiting your response,
Ben

bigben- The output shafts that are compatible with the aluminum horns have an "X" on the top.

Mike,
Thanks for the answer but I still have a problem and maybe you have more to tell?

All the Hitec digitals I own (5), (including the one that I can't get the arm on) have the "x" you mention but this one odd ball won't seem to accept the arm. Problem could be the arm itself but why the different colors? Is the diameter of the output shafts different dependent on the color?

Thanks again for the wisdom shared.
Man I want to fly!

All the shafts are the same size. The only reason for the different color is the anodizing. There should be no reason it would not accept the horn. What about the stock metal arm that came with it?

Mike I think you would make a great detective.

I tried the stock Hitec metal arm after I sent the message yesterday and it fit like a hand in a glove. Today I phoned and am having a replacement arm sent to me.

I fully expect the arm will cure my problem so in advance of its' delivery I wanted to say thanks for your time and help extended!

I believe the tolerances of the Airwild arms was made for the nylon output shafts. My Airwild double rudder arm went on so tight on a 5945 that I almost destroyed the case pulling it back off to adjust my pull pull linkage. Needless to say, before I installed the single arms on my 5925's, I made sure the servos were centered, cause they don't like coming off. I tried the arms on some 425's in a sport plane and they were a slip fit due to the nylon splines.

AirWild MLP aluminm servo arms are made specifically for metal alloy output shaft. They are designed to have a very precise spline pattern match to individual servo brand and do fit very tightly. Being that aluminum servo arms are typically used in high load, high torque applications, any slop or play in servo arm mounting will progressively worsen over time due to material wear.

Check your servo arm / servo setup. With push rod removed, grab the servo arm by the tip and "gentlely" rock the servo arm in a forward / backward motion. You will likely sense a slight movement or slop which is due to either / or both;
1. slop in servo arm / servo output shaft fit
2. slop in servo gear train.

To address problem #1, the servo arm spline pattern must be engineered to fit precisely. This does make installing the arm a little tirckly as you have to maintain an absolutely "vertical" movement when installling the arm onto the output shaft. Kind of like putting piston back into the cylinder sleeve.

Jerry, there is still a noticable difference there. Take an Airwild arm made for a JR and slip it on a DS9411 metal output shaft, good snug fit, no slop but no problem removing. I have 3 Airwild arms made for Hitec on both 5925 &45's (full and half arms) and they are all as good as "glued" on.

Yes you are right. The JR version is a little looser than the new Hitec version.

JR was the very first version we made. At the time we thought the fit was good enough and most customers also thought it was acceptable. However as the trend of giant scale airplanes is marching beyond 40% scale, we feel the need to tighten the fit, just as an added security. Our recently introduced Futaba and Hitec arms, as well as our upcoming Airtronics version, all offer much tighter fit.
