Hello Everyone. I've decided to build another GP Extra 300s because I sold the first one I built.

Anyone Interested? I would love to do a build thread but I want to make sure people are interested!

Thanks Everyone!

Sounds good guys! (gals?)

My kit should arrive tomorrow at the hobby shop so I'll pick it up and start building!

Heres the basic equipment I'll be using:

1. OS 91 4 stroke w/ Pump
2. Fiberglass Specialties Cowl and Wheel Pants
3. Ultracote Covering
4. Hayes 12oz Fuel Tank
5. Dubro Scale Tailwheel

Stay Tuned!

Ok guys, I'm ready to build. I picked up my kit and a bottle of glue at the LHS yesterday so I'm ready to go.

I'm very happy with the way Great Planes has packaged all the pieces of this kit. It had all pieces in it, nothing missing, and the wood looks to be good.

Here are somes starter pics:

Jason, make sure you do a search and find the build, can't remember who's it was but it's a black and gold GP Extra. He did some mods on his that really made this plane POP!!! Just making the rudder and elevators counter balanced made it look grate. I think his Extra is one of the better looking I have seen. Nothing over the top or hard to do but it really came out nice!!

After I got back from flying this morning, I came home and started framing up the stab. Its a fairly simple stab to build. The glue I'll be using for most of this build is Sig Super Weld. Its a liquid resin glue that is strong, lighweight, and sands easily.

Hey Gene, thanks for the info. I have read through and have that thread you are stating bookmarked, and I will be reading it alot. I will have to see about the balance tabs for the elevators and rudder. I will do some thinking while I'm out of town.

Thanks

Jason

Hey Guys. I got alot done today on the extra 300. I basically got the stab and elevators framed up. This kit so far has been great to assemble. The plans and instructions are great, quality of materials is great, and its a great design.

Here are some pics of what I got done today.

Pic 1: Framed up and completed stab
Pic 2: Starting to frame up elevators
Pic 3: Tool I use to help get proper angles, works great!
Pic 4: Completed Elevators!

I can see your problem already, you must go to the Gray Bearded Old Poops School of Glue slathering and Slinging. If you don't get glue all over the place it makes your sanding way too easy.

Lol. Are you saying I'm not using enough glue? I try to wipe off all the excess glue after i glue to piece. Should I leave the excess on so I can have fun sanding??

Truth be told Jason I just said your one of the clean people. My big glue job today was just putting on a face to my ailerons then gluing on the round LE. As we speak I'm peeling the glue from my fingers. I have never been able to be neat. When I was a kid i built my planes in the living room and used Ambroids glue. I drove my mom nuts peeling and spitting the glue off my fingers. Even with the little CA glue tips I make a mess. Right now I have fresh CA on my shorts and tee shirt. I have building clothing and clothes that my wife would kill me if she even saw me walking out to the shop wearing. I am a slob!!

Ohhhhhhh I got ya know Gene. I misunderstood, my apologies.  For some reason, its easy for me to be clean and hard to be dirty when building these darn things.

I got alot of work done this morning. I managed to get the elevators done, the stab done, and almost got the rudder and fin done. I also made a little sanding tool to get into tight areas. I also completed the renovation in my work shop.

Here are some pics:

Thanks Mike!

I've been pondering on a covering scheme. I know its far off, but I like to think ahead. Heres an Extra 300s that I though looked pretty good.

I will be out of town for awhile as I'm going to the Oshkosh airshow, so it will be about a week before I get a chance to get any work done on the airplane.

Thanks

Jason

Hopefully this isn't copyright posting this picture.  I have no idea.

Well, I basically have the tail surfaces done. They weren't complicated to build at all. I'm surprised I got them done in 2 days!

Here are the last pics till I get back from Oshkosh:

Pic 2- Fin/Rudder
Pic 3- Stab/Elevators

When I get back from Oshkosh, I will be starting on the wing. I may consider doing aileron servo hatches, and also may consider extending the aileron to get more prop wash at slower speeds in flight.

Cheers,

Jason

Well, my camera went to crap, so I have not been able to take any pictures. I have made progress though. I completed 1 wing panel, and started on the second. It turned out really nice! I will try and get the camera going ASAP!
