Anybody have any information on plans or three views for this plane. This was one of the planes that actually flew in the movie "Those Magnificent Men and Their Flying Machines".

I have the book "Building Aeroplanes for 'Those Magnificent Men'" but it doesn't give enough info to build one. In the book it indicates that a John Habin and Peter Hillwood of the Hampshire Aero Club were contracted to build the airplane for the movie.

Does anyone know how to contact either of these individuals or possibly someone else who knows about the plane or where I could obtain planes or three views.

Any help is appreciated.

What an interesting subject for a model! Something really different.
I did a google search on this plane and found several sites about it. One showed a guy named Ian Turney-White who built a huge one at 50% scale.

Tmoth4,

I take it from your handle that you like Tiger Moths. So do I.

I did a google search also but I can't find the info you refer to.
Do you remember what the site was?

Thanks for the lead.

DaVinci,
Here is the web address for the site. http://members.lycos.co.uk/LMASiteUK/ian_t-white_triplane.htm
I just did a google search for Avro Triplane and it came up first on the list.
Yes, the Tigermoth is probably my favorite bipe. I've built four of them, each one bigger than the last. The latest is 1/4 scale with a gas motor. I don't think I'll go any bigger, though. If you're interested, I have a couple pictures of it in the members gallery.

Tmoth4,
Thanks for the lead.
I had done a google search using "AVRO Triplane IV" and got a different set of links which didn't include the one you had.

Thanks again.

THAT AVRO Triplane lives at the Shuttleworth Museum in England. I've seen it fly and have airpics of it. Shuttleworth also have the Sopwith Triplane. Pete McDermott has successfully campaigned his model of it at various FAI World Scale Champs. Shuttleworth have a website - try Shuttleworth Museum. MalcolmL

MalcolmL,

I've emailed Shuttleworth in reference to the plane. Their responce was 'yes we have the plane and you are welcome to come and take pictures of it but we don't supply any information on our planes'. I wpuld love to get to Shuttleworth but I live in the states and it's more than I can afford to go to England.

Thanks for the thought.

Bummer - I thought the Brits would be a little more cooperative ..... hhmmmm ! They are a flying museum so I suppose they're busy - huh ...... ?!

Let's see what I can do from here - I'm in Bangkok, Thailand ..........

First, I can't send you what little I have because my CD Drive is down - maybe next week I'll have something for you. Do I have your email address ?

Second, Shuttleworth has an RC club on the site. I've been there. It's probably called the Shuttleworth RC Club - or you could go back to the Museum and ask them for a contact point at the RC club. I feel sure the RC club would have members prepared to help.

Third, you could get onto the newsgroup

which is not as extensive (comprehensive - verbose - divisive ??!!) as

and see if anyone on there can help.

4th, you could try the BMFA (British Model Flying Assopciation) for contact details of the Shuttleworth RC Club. Their email is

5th, Nexus who publish UK model mags have an extensive range of plans and 3-views. Their 1995 plans catalogue has a 24 inch tethered(round-he-pole) model of the AVRO Tripe under plan number AM1501. I don't have a later catalogue. Maybe they have a 3-view too. Bob Holman plans is their US agent.

6th, you could even try the "other" RC forum Online ...... ?

Please send me your email address to remind me.

R/C Scale International has a plans catalog. Maybe you can find something there. It's a good scale magazine, too.

Thanks for the leads. I'll have to start looking into them.

I was talking to another fellow and he said he thought that some fellow in Texas had built an ultralite patterned after the Avro. I'll have to look into that also.

Anyone in Texas of ultralites know anything about this?

Da Vinci,

OK - no more excuses from me - my 'puter is now working again - so is my scanner - I've found the pics - so if you still want the shots I took of the AVRO Triplane at Shuttleworth 2 years ago, just let me know.

Da Vinci - tried emailing you the AVRO Tripe pics but my message did not go through - something wrong. I've now reduced the image to fit RCU's requirements but I'm afraid it'll too small to view the images clearly. So if you want, email me your correct / full email address and I'll try to oblige. Malcolm, I sent you my email address through the "pm" system. Did you not get it. I use yahoo email and am limited to 6MB of email space so if your files were bigger than that they wouldn't get through. Can you send individual pis at two day intervals?

da vinci - yes, I did receive your email and I tried to send the pix but was bounced. I could try again as you suggest or maybe I could post each pic separately on this thread - that is if the moderator doesn't mind (are there any rules about this ?) - and if the other guys on the thread don't mind either. Any comments ?MalcolmL
