Malcolm, Thanks for the pics. I really appreciate your effort. I don't know if anyone else is looking at them or not but if not they don't know what their missing.

Good flying and land with the wheels down.

da vinci - you're very welcome. I receive a lot of useful input from members of this group so it's a pleasure to be able to respond in kind. I hope after all this that you axctually do get down to it and produce a model of the Tripe. And please be sure to post your results.
BTW do you have a copy of "AVRO Aircraft since 1908" by AJ Jackson ? It has 2 monochrome photos, specifications and data with a bit of interesting history of the type.

Malcolm, It may be a while, right now I'm working on an Antoinette. I'm at the point of working out the rigging. At last count I'm at 43 turnbuckels and lots of wire. Working out the tie downs is most difficult. My hope is to finish this year and fly by late summer or early fall.

I don't have a copy of the book you refer to but I will look for one. I do have a copy of the book by Allen Wheeler titled 'Building Aeroplanes for 'Those Magnificent Men'.

If and when I get to the Avro I'll post pics.

Thanks again.

I think Arizona has a kit of the biplane Avro; maybe the plans could help or contacting the designer might give you a leg up on info. Tom

Tom, The Arizona model is of the Avro D, a bi-plane. How close it is to the tri-plane I don't know. I'll have to look into it.

Thanks for the info.

"In 1911, A V Roe abandoned the triplane configuration and designed a biplane which bore a close resemblance to the Roe IV." Quoted from "AVRO Aircraft since 1908" page 18. There's a picture and sure enough, it does bear a resemblance - it looks like AVR dispensed with the short span lower wing and then moved the other two wings down and then modified the tail feathers somewhat. I'm going to attach page 16 from the AVRO book which is about the IV - if it's clear enough and readable, I'll forward the other pages to you. Let me know what you think. MalcolmL

Malcolm, Can't read it. Tried printing it but not legible. I'm going to look for the book you have. I'll also search the net. Some pages from some of these books and/or articles are on the net.
Did you scan the page? I have Visioneer PaperPort if you could email me the scan file.

I have an excellent 3-view of the Shuttleworth Collection Avro Triplane. It is signed and authenticated by the president of the Shuttleworth Collection, and appeared in an article in the now discontinued French RC scale mag, MVM, no. 31, Apr/Jun, '99 (the finest scale mag ever published, IMO). The 3-view is contained in an article about Andreas Luthi, who won the World RC Scale Championship with his 1/4 scale model of the Shuttleworth Avro Triplane. I would be happy to sned you a copy or the article and 3-view. Let me know your address.

gallen, I prefer not to put my address on the site. You don't appear to allow private messages so if you send me (through the private messaging system) your email address I'll send you the information you need. Also do you know if and where I might get a copy of the mag you reference?

Private message sent. I don't know if RCM (the French parent mag.,they have a web site), is still selling past issues of MVM or not. They do still sell the scale plans published in MVM.

Gallen - tried responding earlier but it didn't take. I'm also very interested in ahving the AVRO Triplane IV 3 views you mentioned. Do you have any contact details of the French MVM magazine you referred to - email, website, FAX .... ? I've never heard of it and from your description, it certainly seems worth a viewing. I suppose it's in French but then, we scalers are a truly inventive lot ........

MalcomL, MVM (Marquettes Volantes Magazine) ceased publication with the Mar/Apr 1999 issue. The parent magazine, RCM (Radio Commande Magazine, Rue du Chataue, Tilly, 77310 St. Fargeau, France) is alive and well (and, of course, in French) and contains considerable scale features, including extensive coverage of Top Gun, at least 5X what we get from our domestic magazines. RCM does not have a web site and I don't think it is distributed by anyone in the US. I picked up a copy on a visit to France, and sent in a subscription request.

With regard to the 3-views, send me a private message with your address and I will send you a copy.

Bill - that sounds like the AVRO D Biplane which was Roe's 6th design and second biplane - his first design was also a biplane.
You mention yours was from a kit or scratch built - could it really have been a kit ? And yes, I for one would love to see some pics of it with some dimensional details too. Thanks. MalcolmL

Hello All, I wrote to the US version of RCM asking if they were the parent of the French mag. They said no but they gave me an email address which they think is the French RCM publisher. The address they gave is as follows: rcmpub@club-inernet.fr. I wrote to the address and it was kicked back so I put a "t" in the "inernet" and tried again. So far I have had no responce. I'll wait and see what happens.
