Guys, is it necessary to run this engine with the canister muffler, or may I simply use only the header and direct the exhaust from it out of the fuselage? I know it will be loud, but will I be damaging the engine or hurting performance? Engine is in a large warbird, so no 3D aerobatics. Thanks. Mark.

now I dont have the 3W but I have a 100 cc ZDZ inline.. I have bench run the engine and am using sonoco 110 fuel with Mobil T2 mix and a solo 24-12 3 blade which is the max size for the engine and found that the engine was about a 1000 rpm over the recommended static rpm..So I will need to move the pitch up to about 14.. so if it helps any I dont think it would hinder your engine, infact maybe help it... cirtanly will make it sound great!.. with the style pipe i made.... it actually almost sounds like a F1 indy car.. impressive at higher rpm's

Thanks Chickenhawk. The pics on your P-40 are exactly what I had in mind. The noise doesn't bother me all. I just wanted to be sure the engine performance would not suffer.
