MPI just released the new Falcon 20.5X14.5 V2 prop, I had a chance to do some test run over this past weekend, and would like to share my impressions.

As people know, the Falcon carbon fiber prop has been known for their light weight, great efficiency, and performance, now the light just got lighter. When MPI first released the Falcon prop series, the average weight for 20.5X14.5 is around 65 grams, an impressive accomplishment in building a prop this size. Now MPI found ways to reduce their prop weight even further, in fact, they lowered the weight by another 33%. The new V2 prop I received (in picture) weigh in at 40 grams, which is about 1.4oz.

The performance is identical to the original version; the throttle response seems to improve slightly as well, which could be the result of lower overall mass from the prop. In short, this is a definite keeper.

Got it. Flew it. Broke it.

Motor mount broke on take off and made a mess of things. Really pretty prop. When I ordered I thought the price was $72 but got the bill at $100! Light ain't cheap but it did help me to get my CG back where it needs to be. APC is 122 gm and this prop is an amazing 40 gr.

Weighed mine today. The old version is 66 grams. The new one is 36 grams.

I have one. Plane definitely flies slower. A little too slow for me with the integral. It is a great prop though and will continue to keep it and use it when I have a plane that suits the prop

I've got about 30 flights so far on it. It is holding up just fine and is working to my liking.

So is this slower or faster than the 21X14 Falcon?

I'm looking for something that would add some braking on downlines compared to the 21X14.

Colin,

I haven't gone back and forth to compare it to the heavier version, but it seems to be better uphill and downhill to me. I know Dave Lockhart has been flying it since he picked one up in Muncie from F3AUnlimited at the Worlds, but he hasn't done a back and forth comparison yet either. I have never flown the 21X14, so I can't give you a comparison to it either. I believe there is a lighter 21X14 in the works, too.
