I have a Dynaflite Super Decathelon and was wondering what the best size and brand prop for this combo. I intend to do some aerobatics with the plane.

Thanks

Smokey,

I have the same set up, but my engine is the Quadra 42 (basically the same thing). I run an 18x10, which is a little light for the engine, but OK. You will not be able to run anything larger in diameter. The gear height is marginal for 18" prop as it is.

How has your weight come out? Mine weighs in around 18.5#.

Overall you have a great combination. Have fun with it. I sure do.

Regards,

Bedford

An 18 x 10 prop should be fine. You can try other props, but make sure they turn the same RPM range as the 18 x 10.

beepee...What brand prop are you using. I have an Apc 18x8 on it for breaking. Have not run it yet but will this weekend hopefully. I think the plane weighs about 15# on a bathroom digital scale. Anybody know what rpms i should be looking for with an 18x10 prop.

Smokey,

I run standard wood Zingers. My Quadra instructions recommended wood only. Could save the crankshaft in a crash. An 18x10 should give you just over 7000 at this point, a bit more after break in.

How did your balance come out?

beepee... The plane balanced nose heavy with the servos mounted in the tray near the tail. Battery and receiver just infront of that. I will move the battery closer to the tail. I am also looking into mounting the elevator servos near the tail section. Probably gonna be a pain to do so. I will remove the spring starter to lessen nose weight.

Smokey,

I wish mine turned out that way. Mine was tail heavy. I took my US41 on CH ignition out to replace with my Quadra as it weighs 8 - 10 ozs. more. I moved the batteries forward to the middle of the cabin and added a bit of dead weight to the firewall to get the final trim.

It shouldn't take too much dead weight in the tail to get to the right trim for your bird.

Have fun!

This is the U.S. Engines Support area. It's not a general discussion forum. I'm closing this thread since it's strayed from the original support question.
