The Kit finally arrives after 4 months waiting, the box had no damage and the jet was very well packed. After inspection I decide to reinforce all the critical areas with carbon fiber and change color scheme. I will try to built as “Scale” as possible so a lot of modifications will be done.

Be patient for the photos, I’m slow builder……..

Front landing gear modification, for these parts I used 10 mm aluminum, 6mm wood, 1 servo arm and J-B Weld glue.

I had to invert the front retract mechanism so I can get space for the gear, I’m happy with this modification because in the process I discover that all the screws were unscrewed and no Loctite applied in the factory.

This is the real one, which I’m trying to match. For some reason almost all mini torches in the market are now led technology, It’s being difficult to get two to duplicate the real thing.

I will take some pics tonight and send them to you.  They are mostly small parts.  Here is one set.   These 3 all came in a bag by themselves.

hi,

Question regarding the installation of your main gear. In the retracted position, will the wheel protrude out from the wheel well?

For mine, with the retacts mounted flat against the retract mounts, the wheels will protrude out about 1/8". I can't raise the mounts as the retract will foul the fuel tank.

Thanks.

Jl add an 1/8th ply spacer usually in the retract set to raise the main retract units. If not you can make your own...
I fitted the fuel tanks next to the intakes infront of the 1st main former. This relieves the area above the retracts and frees up space for turbine ancilliaries. This has no effect on CG during flight.

Hello mun_iz,

I understand your problem, in my airplane the left retract is ok but the right one has a 3mm difference. So in this case is not a big problem.
I detected this issue when I was working on the gear doors and the left side as a small gap between the wheel and the door, the right one is almost touching. (With the gear retracted)
We all hope that the Chinese quality issues were solved, but I can tell you one history (or two) about my top F3A planes…….

Regards

Luis

Hello TurboMC,

I have a pdf called F-15 photo installation which I download some years ago from the Global jet centre.
I checked the web page to give you the link but it’s not there anymore.

Send me your e-mail, and I will send this pdf to you.

The majority of the parts can be used on the tail pipe, servo mounts and front tray.

Regards

Luis

the laminated blocks are for servo mounting, i do NOT recommend using them, they delaminate very easily.

i added shims under the back of the retract unit to lift the wheels inside the fuselage and allow the doors to fully close.

Thank you for the PDF.  Should help a lot.  A couple more questions.

- How far your flaps go down and how much elevator (up or down) you've dialed in to compensate for the flap deployment?

- Any special tips for flying the plane (I'm flying on grass), take off, landing, etc.

Thank you!

my flaps drop 1 3/4", i use crow so the ailerons go up 1/4" and i have no pitch change at all with flap deployment.

i have a Titan SE in mine and only fly from concrete so take off is a non event most of the time, it doesn't do well in strong cross wind due to the small rudder size so expect it to drift after lift off. balanced on the center of the forward spar it takes minimum effort to rotate.

landings are almost automatic, pull power back and pull the nose up, add just enough power to control rate of decent, chop it full just before touchdown and flare. only landing issue i've had was the nose gear hanging up on the opening and not dropping out but the stabs kept the weight off the nose and it only suffered paint damage, didn't even rub though the gel coat.

here's the flight where the nose wheel hung up, it was a 10-15mph 90 deg cross wind so you can see the drift after rotating as well.

Thank you for the info.  The info I got for the throws was 1" up/down ailerons, 1" left/right on rudder and 2" up/down on stabs.  Do those sound right to you?  BTW looking flight.   You make it look easy.

those are about what i've got with the exception of the stabs, i've got 2.5" of up and down, full flying stabs take a lot of throw in hard turns and on high AOA landings.

Hate to keep being a pest but I have  few more questions
-  can you tell me what your F15s weight was (all 3 main tanks empty, UAT full)?
-  by CG on the forward spar do you mean the forward carbon fiber dowel that mounts the wing to the plane?
-  my exhaust pipe is touching the rear recessed lip that the main hatch seats down into, I have ceramic matting covered with tin foil in that area.  Did yours do that?

Front gear almost ready for painting.

Start working on the rudders….

The hinges (changed for Graupner hinges) are glued to the white rudder parts, but not glued to the fixed part.
The all structure is very fragile (Chinese construction……L), I’m still thinking in a way to secure the servos and I have to correct and reinforce the holes in the rudder (not align).

For servos I have two choices:

Hitec 5125 MG – 3.5 kg of torque

Graupner DES 448 BB, MG – 4.5 kg

Any thoughts/options for rudder installation.....?

No, as mentioned above, it's the center of the forward carbon tube in the wing.
