Scale and Handy,

I actually called Tower today because I received a shipping invoice.

They wouldn't let me put a stop on it. Said it was being bagged and gagged for shipment.

They did say, if I paid the shipping, I could send it back.

Charles

Scale,

Stills is all I can do, I have no video camera.

It'll be two years before I even open the box.

My plane came yesterday. The kit is beautiful, I don't think I could have built and finished it as well as it came from GP. Certainly not for the price, and would have been many hours in the building room. Now if one of you inventive guys could devise a semi scale retractable landing gear.

Well,

I received mine today, 4:00 PM to be exact. Large box, but when I opened the box, there was a smaller box. A much smaller box.

Light also.

I don't get excited all that easily.

Probably because of the perils of my lifetime. And there's been plenty.

It'll be a while before I open the box and view this ARF. As I said before, I've lost interest in it.

When I do, you can expect an opinion, not based on excitment.

Already, in spite of the fact I purchased one, I believe they are over priced. Most probably, under built, to maintain lightness.

The retract gear thing, I doubt I'll even fly mine out of water. Probably wind up selling it.

I'll see what others have to say.

Charles

Yep...our great local hobby shop, Roy's Hobbies, has great pricing. I was quoted $10.00 less than Tower is selling it for.

I would at least open the box to check for damage. Both of my engine nacelles were cracked. On first inspection they looked good because the cracks actually sprung back together and looked intact. Not a major problem, as a call to Tower has a new set coming. I feel the plastic could have been a little thicker. I'm sure once it is glued to the wing the integrity will be fine, but by itself the structure is weak. I wish we had a local hobby shop, unfortunately they have all closed. The club member price at Tower is hard to beat with $25 off and free shipping.

Although I've purchased from Tower, I'm not a member of their Club.

We have two HS nearby and I try to support them. I try to support Brodak also. Purchased stuff there yesterday.

Plastic? Don't you mean fiberglass?

Now I'm really afraid to open the box.

Just for fun last night I went through the manual (online pdf) and placed all the recommended equipment (not including glues, etc) plus the airplane into the shopping cart. It comes to $542 bucks.

There are many low cost alternatives to the (IMO) overpriced Rimfire and GP products.

BP hobbies has a similar outrunner that I have used on the GP PBY and Seawing EP...this motor costs 17.95. A couple of 30 amp ESCs can be had for around 22-25 bucks each. 9 gram HXT900 servos can be had for around 3.50 shipped and are better servos than HS55s.

Not counting the lipo or the RX, which I already have, I will spend less than $100.00 outfitting my Widgeon. The lipo gets used in several models and since I do not fly seaplanes all the time, the RX will get other use as well.

You're my kind of guy!

Nice if you put together a list of those alternative parts.

Makes me want to open my box!

...

Here is my planned setup:

BP A2212-13 outrunners for $17.95 each:

http://www.bphobbies.com/view.asp?id=V450327&pid=B1688512

(you can use any 950-1000KV outrunner of similar size...about 28mm in diamter, 28-30mm long that weighs in at around 55 grams, plus or minus a little.)

Exceed Proton 30AMP esc on sale for $15.00 each

http://www.hobbypartz.com/07e04-proton-30a.html

HXT900 servos for about $2.70 each plus shipping from HK

With the ESCs being on sale, I can get all but the RX and lipo for around 79.90 plus some shipping. HobbyPartz has free shipping on orders over 50.

http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__662__HXT900_9g_1_6kg_12sec_Micro_Servo.html

I already have a 3S 3000 30C Sky lipo from Hobbypartz.com (under 23 bucks) and it is working great in other models. about 10% less capacity than the GP suggestd battery, but it will work fine.

http://www.hobbypartz.com/77p-sl3000-3s1p-30c-3333.html

For RX, I will use either an AR600, or perhaps even a $6.00 Orange Spektrum 6ch RX...I have 15 of them and all are woking perfectly.

There is no need to break the bank to get ths model in the air.

What about nitro!

Couple of small 4 strokes.

Who makes the smallest 4 stroke.

Couple of .15's or .25's could do it also.

Still no interest in opening my box.

Hey Guys,
At our club meeting last night a Hobbico rep. gave a presentation on the history of the company. Interesting talk. He also brought a bunch of products including the G-44. I got to see and handle it up close. Beautiful plane, the design, etc. I'd buy it in a heartbeat, but funds are low at this time.

Charles: Why would you want to convert this plane to glow? Also, if your interest in the G-44 keeps fading, put it up for sale here and it will be gone before you can say lickity split!

Fast Freddy,

I paid 179.00 for the thing.

Guys won't pay that! They will want it for 80 bucks.

Possibly when they are discontinued.

Seems like there's nothing in the box.
