Looking to find a good place to buy wire for my cutting bow. Picked up some ni-chrome from LHS, pricy for the lengh. I heard that fishing leader wire worked well,about 40# test. Picked up a small pack of 40# test , uncoated, but find out it is a 7-strand wire. Has anyone used the straned wire? Results? Where do you get yours? Forgot I had this site. http://www.mcmaster.com/#metal-wire/=dmej0c What size wire would be best, for bows from 18"-30"? I have edited this link severl times, and each time, I reenter it its different, just lok at the stainless steel wire. Thanks.

I use the wire from an old electric fire element, the type common in the 1950's & 60's which were spirally wound on a ceramic rod. A similar wire seemed to be in an old tumble drier I scrapped......miles of the stuff!

Here is a site that not only offers nichrome wire, but has a lot of helpful information about its use.  Even a nice little chart that relates current to temperature of wire.

I agree with Lone Star; I just bought some 20ga and 22ga from Jacob's. Prices are good, quick turn around and Gary was very helpful.

BTW, the wire cuts better than anything I have used to date.

Yes, I use recycled control line wire. Either .012 or .015. Works OK, for me it is free. Lots of controline combat wings were cut that way.

I use electric guitar strings. Different thicknesses have difference resistivities.

I use 300 series SS safety tie wire.

Thanks, Lone Star. That's the Ni-Chrome wire site for Dummies!!!! Like the interactive on the bottom. Just finished this up last night.
