Kevin you should use metal from where the pushrod exits the plane. They sell various lengths of 2-56 rod with the ends threaded.

Also, high rates are generally for slow speed flight and downlines are usually a good time to back off the throttle on aerobatic planes.

On my SE I found the stock control rod material to be very prone to temperature changes effecting it's length. Switch to Sullivan linkage that is less likely to need trim adjustments as the temperature changes. Read the package and it will tell you how much it is affected.

Kevin,

The way the kit goes together the pushrod slides down the tube and then you screw it in leaving the threads exposed at the end. this would have prevented what happened. Look at the instructions.

Kevin you are correct! I too have the Sig SE, and after looking at the picture I noticed the same thing you did. The metal portion of the pushrod should have been left to the length it was, and NOT cut! By cutting off the metal end just after the threads you are taken out the strength of the rod.

I have numerous flights on my SE (on HR) with No problems. It is a shame that you had to lose this aircraft to learn this lesson. I hope all goes well for you in the future.

No, I didn't cut the metal pushrods thats the length they were from the factory. They may have changed them since I built mine. Mine was an ARF built around March. I know the ARF and kit are completely different (wings, wing tube ect) maybe the pushrods are different also that is if yours was a kit. Funny thing is I was planning on replacing the pushrods with all metal but never did. I didn't fly this plane much anymore. After flying larger models little 40-90 size planes are boaring to me.

well that's one of the first things i did when i bought this arf some years back, change thoes pushrods. I found they were way too weak, and would flex. after changing them i now have as much deflection as possible on both rudder and elevator. the rudder now comes close to the elevator, so now need to make some changes to have more deflection.

that's too bad that it happened to your plane. I love this plane and all the stuff that it can do.
