Here is one with a tall exhaust.

In the picture in post 298 you can see the exhaust is smoking a little, and the dark spots on the masts nearby. Didn't notice that in the three previous pics in post 297. I think that what's most important is how it looks to you. It's your boat, build the way you want it to look. Don't forget the primary reason for doing this is to have fun!

The only thing I noticed about your exhaust stack is the ones on the boat pictures were pointed about 30 degrees outboard rather than directly aft.  Maybe yours is too and it just doesn't show in the picture.

Your boat is looking super!

Bob

Today looks like the day. Not a cloud in the sky. But it is south Florida and showers can pop up any time. Ill shoot for around 3pm after my daughter gets out of school so she can video it.

Stay tuned.

Well it runs but not without a few problems. I had bought 2 chinese speed controllers for the lobster boats and decided not to use them. So I went ahead and used one on this boat. problem being is sometimes it won't go forward or reverse. I guess you get what you pay for. No more chinese for me. I'll start looking for a Traxxas XL5 like I used on the lobster boats.
Other than that it runs great. Its not a power house by no means and in the video I once had it full throttle. Although that could also be the ESC.
All in all I'm very happy with the way it turned out . I still want to add a few details like a lifeboat and life rings, ETC ETC.
I'll find another ESC and then make another video.

I was just looking at the traxxas ESC that I used in the lobster boats and found out that it would not be large enough. So the search in on. I'm needing/wanting a 12v ESC. anybody have any ideas? Of course without spending my daughters college fund.

Look for an ESC that wil take 12-14 cels ( 1 cell=1.2 volts)

Here is the other little problem that I ran into.
The throttle on the transmitter.
Because there is no detent on the throttle, I was having a hard time finding the neutral spot between forward and reverse.
So I put on the thinking cap (that hurt) and decided I could somehow make a throttle plate so that their would be no question where neutral was.
Here is what I came up with. Its simple yet crude. Two pieces of 1/16 ply laminated together. Then I found out that the screws holding the stick were not long enough.
Off to ACE Hardware for some longer ones.
And here is the final product.

BTW: I changed the ESC last night to the other ESC I had bought from china and it seems to work OK. Time will tell.

You're going to show up at that lake one day and realize you have created "Fussell's Navy".  You already have the Dauntless for air support.  Looks like it's time to build a Catalina or a Grumman Duck for search and rescue work
