I hear ya and I'm standing right beside you. I'm going to give the building a bit of a rest for a week or so, then try to do just a little bit each night. I have two projects in the works. One was started 30 years ago! A Sig Mustang 450.

Take your time. This is supposed to be a FUN hobby!

Speaking of old projects,
I pulled down an old wing I made about 15 years ago. I put about 2 or 3 hours into last weekend.
Take a look at it    www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_11062371/tm.htm

I have a couple of wings I keep around for "Target Drones"... They have also been up in the rafters for about 15 years.

I have a little finnishing up to do on this plane.
I think I have managed to get maybe 10 minutes of stick time in the last 2 or 3 years.
So I am rather reluctant to get my groov back with this plane. I sure have putt a lot of time into it.
So I detured for a little while to build a cheap don't give a darn about it trainer.
It is at this link.

I hadn't flown a plane in maybe 8 or ten years. I was doing a tiny bit of heli though. Any way, it's just like riding a bike. You may be a bit rusty, but it's still there. Maybe you could buddy up and get a bit of stick time with somebody. I'll bet after 3 or 4 landings, you'll be ready for your own plane.

I am sure you are right.
I have (one) an old Futaba 7c. Got a buddy box cord even. Not much chance of some else with one. Could do the pass the box routine though.

I guess this is not my first long absence from flying, and then picking it back up.

Ken

p.s.   And how are you doing with your finger? Able to make a living with? And are you able to build and fly with at present. I know you re-maidend Your Cap (congrats on that), but needed more vet care.

I got hit by a red light runner about 3 weeks ago. OK but shook up a bit. A police officer was there and saw it. cleared me 100%. I was for a split second afraid I was going over, but I steared into the roll. Thank GOD my instinks are good and fast.

Sounds like you were pretty lucky there. Glad everything came out OK!!!!!

It's two weeks today since the second surgery to repair the ex-tensor tendon. I've been in a splint since and about two weeks before. The vet thought it might save another surgery???? The rest of the hand is suffering a bit as it doesn't get much use. the middle finger and ring finger are a bit stiff, They both took a bit of abuse in the beginning. I have about 5 or 6 flights on the cap and have been adjusting the wing incidence. Had to mod the fuse a bit so I guess I'm building.... kind of It is flying great, but I am doing a "proper" trim job on it by adjusting anything it needs to fly really nice. I am working and thankfully it's slow. I take care of the parts counter as well as spin wrenches. T vet tells me six weeks in the splint before any therapy, then total of twelve weeks for the tendon to completely heal. I'll be in the splint the whole time A hundred years from now it matter any more

Thank you. My wife gets the lions share of the credit for the scheme.

wing in 6 pieces   is that 6 pieces that join at the field each time? I have done 2 piece wings that assemble at the field, I have done polyhedral that was 4 sections that then glued togeather. 6 sounds like a pain, wich is not necesarely a bad thing , just chalenging.

Ken

Yes 6 broken parts the fuselage is nearly back together, I got it from a clubmate who was buddying someone up who was doing loops and hit a tree at full throttle. I also got a skyraider mach 2 from him that had a radio problem on takoff and crushed the fuz back to the leading edge of the wing and snapped the wing into two pieces. It is flying now and is serving as my low wing trainer.

LOL, nice FlyMad.

You've picked up a very useful and rare skill there. Fixing those planes after crashes like that.

Only thing worse than crashing your new plane and throwing it in the trash, is having someone pull it out of the trash and have it flying again in two weeks.

I bet you would have loved to have gotten your hands on SunDevils 1/4 scale cub. LOL

http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/fb.asp?m=11166503

I'm glad SDP came to his senses and decided to fix the very minorly damaged cub.

I have made some progress off and on. Nothing notable enough to post. I have spent most of my building time on a couble of other projects. I must say I have not spent much time building on anything though. After work I only want to eat and go to bed. leaves a few hours on the weekend.
Updating my batteries. Got a Life for my transmitter A Futaba 7uaf. Next free money goes to a flight pack battery. Those little devils are spendy. Paceing the spending out carefully as money is kinda of tight for us and car repairs come first. Got to do the brakes. Pads are about done and rotors are beyond haveing turned. So after that then more on the planes.
At the moment I am sans a club to fly at. There are 2 not to far away. It may come down to which is cheaper to join.
Thanks for asking and checking up on me guys. It helps motivate me. Wife has been gently trying to get me into a build mood. It is really cool to have that kind of support. She wants a bi plane in the air after this. She saw a pair of bibe wings I had stashed under the bed.
I will see how much I can get done on this bird this week end along with two others that are close to finnish.
This plane needs to fly this year.
Ken

Hi Ken!

Glad to see you are still doing a bit of building! I know about the money thing. We all have it to some degree. I was given a Carl Goldberg Monster Pitts S12. It has the nose broken off and the bottom right wing in need of some semi major repair. I have the materials to fix it but then comes the issue of engine and radio gear.

You will catch the building mood after while. I'm kind of the same as you right now. As soon as I get motivated I'll go at it full bore. I do have to build a new wing for my CAP as I broke it in flight. Saved the rest of the plane though with only one tiny crack at the wing hold down bolt plate.

Ken

Hi Ken    Actually mutible Ken's
I
have been working on 2 other planes for the time being. Hot a major mile stone on 1 of them. Got it covered. Juust go to install the servos. That is just a case of buying some more srews tomorrow and screwing them in. Then just run the control linkages. The outer nyrod is in so just the inner. Remount engine Main gear and tank. I am leaveing the wing rubber band hold down dowels till last so as I can mount the wing in the proper balance lacocation. It is pretty butt ugly for a plane, but will make a good re-trainer. Tail dragger for grass.
The other plane is a 3 channel polyhedra design. Sort of a pod and boom. I am trying to make a fairing or boot for the back of the very square fuse/ pod. Smooth the aiflow hitting the tail a bit. Then install radio and cover the fuse.
These two will give me plenty of air time to get my groove back.

If you want to see pictures I can shoot and post those.

I have most of the radio back in the arf.

Job looking at the same time. I have near zero confidence with this one. I Might look into truck driveing. at 60 my options are very limited. I have spent the last 9 months driveing proffessinally already doing paitent delivery. 10 to 12 hours a day.
So if any one wants to chime in on gettin a CDL and recomendation I am all ears.

Ken

The transmiter for my old arf her is a Futable 72 mhz 7c. I have a trianer cord for it but not a 2nd 7c, and there is zero chance some one at one of the local fields will have one to buddy box me on.
So I have been working on 2 other planes that I do have 2 transmitters for, 72 mhz 6 channel airtronics systems.
Just finnished the 4 channel plane. The 3 channel is getting close (3 channel because I already had the wing, never flown).
A coulple of months agoe I bought a Hydrimax 2000 ma transmitter battery and a 2000 ma rx battery.
last pay day I also bought a 2100ma Cheetah Life transmitter battery and a pair of 1700ma rx batteries.
So now I got power.
I had to make adapter plugs to use the batteries in my airtronics systems. The old Airtronics systems are wired backwards to Futaba.
It was felt good to power up my radios.
I still have some of the origanal nicads but they are so old I would never consider using them.

Here are some pics of the little 4 channel trainer. I did not take any build pics.
I made one rib template and just started cuting wood and glueing.
The fuse is a little long but that wont hurt anything. I still had to had about 3/4 ounce of lead to the tail to balence it.
Well heck Server error 500
Will try again later.
Ken

And the 3 channel with the funny wing. It still has a little ways to go. I built the wing many years ago and never put it in the air.

Ok last post for now.
With the 2 planes just abiut ready to go It is almost time to get back to the original plane in this thread.
I have to clean up my work table before I can do anything.
Also put up some more storage for my planes on the walls.Wife wants that bed cleared that I have been laying planes on.
I hope to make a storge run to my buddies garrage were I have a fair amont of things stored. That is all he uses it for. I can clear out some stuff and gain a little more work area.
When ever the site lets me post pics I will.
Getting real anxious to get back to the arf and finnish it.
Been kicking around some other projects.

Finnished the brakes on my car, so with that out of the way and marginal brakes not wighing on my mind, I got back into building. I went over to a freind so as to have a place to work on the car. Can't do that here in the apartment complex. We did the front (disk brakes) first. Fast and easy. The back not much fast or easy there (drums).
The dadgum new drums were maybe 2 or 3 thou to deep. Worked fine when we snuged the wheels down, but when we applied proper torque the drums rubbed the back. We kept adjusting the parking brake and did not solve the proplem. So on a whim we put a old drum back on and then the wheel turned with out grinding when torqued down. So last Sunday was a long day that was finnished under a flash light.
Now I feel like working on my planes.
I just got to clean my work table.

Nuts still can't post pics
