Hi, I finished her in 1 day flat!!! it was hard work but got it done. Some problems i faced were: 1. After i finished making the control rods, i noticed that my 2-56 metal clevises wont screw on... he supplied rods r metric so i was forced to use stock plastic may break anytime clevises. I'll change them before i seriously start to wring her out. 2. The instructions call for engine installation such that the thrust washer of the engine is 121mm from the firewall. I found out that with a 46fx @121m, i ran out of mount!!! Using a 11 x 5 master airscrew. 3. The instructions call for screwing on the engine. BAD IDEA. My engine came off on a hard landing. (No damage fortunately) 4. Also i fitted a bigger fuel tank. Btw, i tight packed the fuel tank and could notice bubbles in the line entering the carby.. Will reduce the packing. 5. The covering was starting to bubble up at places, butnothing that an iron cant fix in a jiffy. 6. The cowl was a very loose fit and at optimum position, it was touching the engine head. So i left the cowl out for the forst flight. 7. Balanced it at 105mm or thereabouts. Added 15 gms nose weight. I'll remove that once the cowl comes on. 6. Overall it was not complicated. Flight. 1. Checked everything, found that i had left the rx batt 'on' by mistake. So switched it with another pack. All's well. Lined her up and pushed the throttle forward. There was a brisk crosswind and the fin was almost like a wind vane but it tracked straight and had a nice shallow takeoff. 2. At recommended throws, the plane is very twitchy. I forgot to dial in the expo's so maybe thats why. 3. Stalls were typical. Left wing dropping. 4. The sink rate is phenominal at idle so u need to fly it in. Knowing when to cut the throttle is an art i need to perfect on this one. The first landing was bumpy but nothing hut except my pride. 5. On my second flight, while landing, about 2 feet off the ground i used a bit too much elevator and it banged down a bit too hard. The engine came off the mounts on this landing and was hanging on to the fuel tubing. LG was bent a little and the axle was bent bit but no real damage again and i had the whole field telling me why i should use screws and why i should use nuts n bolts, especially since this is the first time i used screws. . Also i'll increase the wheels to 3" since our field is very bumpy. 6. The 46 fx appeared to be underpowered and the plane felt very slow in the air. Maybe its the prop. I'll try to use an APC. Thinking of getting a 60fx or a 70 4s once i get used to the plane. Cheers.....
