Mine balanced at slightly nose heavy at 110mm with the servos in the stock location, RX forward of the servo tray and the battery behind the servo tray towards the tail.

Just ordered the Suhkoi ($79), OS 46 ($109) w/ free spinner and Pitts muff, free ship and $15 discount ($208 shipped). Couldn't pass up. I would like to know something, does the mount come mounted, and what position is it in. The Pitts Muff is for mounting the engine sideways. I guess I could fix if not. I'd really like to know if the saito 72 is possible. Bring on the PIC's

The engine mount is not premounted on the firewall, it is predrilled for a 45' angle mount. I mounted my .46 sideway with a pitts muffler but I can' remember if I drilled the firewall for a 90' mount or if it was predrilled for that also.

I think the Saito 72 will be a good engine for this little plane I am planning on putting one in mine though it won't be for awhile. I am currently diverting all funds into finishing my DP Edge 540 with a Poulan 46 with electronic ignition.

ptgarcia, mine balanced EXACTLY like bike466's with the gear in the same positions as his and a TT Pro .46.

Bob101, I have a TT Pro .46 in my Sukhoi, and it does scale aerobatics very well......definitely not overpowered, but scale.

I know people are saying they are going to ue a Saito 72 in the Sukhoi, but what about a Saito 56?? Would that be a good power plant match??? My fear of using the Saito 72 would be that it would become to nose heavey. Thoughts??

Sounds like they meant for you to mount the engine with the stock expansion muffler pointing straight south. How does it look like a large .46 stock muffler would fit? I've gotten rid of all my small glow engines except for a Tower Hobbies .46, which I fished out of Tower's Scratch&Dent for $40. If the price on the Sukhoi drops a bit more, I could actually have a plane/engine combo for less than $100.

Let me know how the Poulan 46cc works out for your DP Edge 540. If they'd quit distracting me with these bargain deals, I might get to work on my Poulan 46/GP Patty.

I tried using the stock muffler on the Evolution .46 mounted at a 45 and a 90, part of the muffler would fit in the boxed area cut out on the bottom of the fuse but it was still going to require some dremel surgery. Personally for a scale plane like this I hate to see a glow muffler sticking out where it shouldn't be but thats just me. You could see the twin stacks on the bottom from the pitts but it still looked better than that big bullet looking muffler sticking out down there.

As said in other threads, the Saito 72 weighs 16.6 ozs w/ muffler. The OS 46 fx I ordered weighs 16.5 w/ muff. I wanted to know will it fit in eng. compartment w/o chopping up the cowl. I'm I mistaking, or does the Giles & Suhkoi weigh the same. Has anyone tested the Giles in air yet.

    glowplug,

    Thanks for the info.

    Snyperx,

The 46 2-strokes and the Saito 72 are virtually the same weight. The cowl is huge. Just a guess (I haven't test fit my Saito 72 as of yet), but I don't think there will be a problem hiding the 72 in there. The firewall measures 5-3/4" wide by 6" high. Good luck!

I have a giles w/ a saito 80 . Yes I did have to hack the cowl up pretty good to get it to fit, I also had to move the cowl forward about 1/2". I'm in the process of extending the cowl mounts now. As soon as I finish i will let you know about balance/flight.

Keep in mind the Saito 80 is bigger and heavier than the 72. It's the same size as the 91.
