im sure this has been asked before but do velocity stacks serve a purpose? do they help keep water out? other than dressing the motor up is there any real purpose for these?

if there's any spit back from the carburetor, they help the engine digest the fuel instead of it going all over the model, other than that they don't really do anything

They do help straighten the air out entering the carb for better flow.

Most velocity stacks do you no good and can actually hurt performance, proven on a dyno.
On the amateur level (me), we took the stack off of a buddies boat and it ran noticably better.
