Hiya,

Thought I did start a new thread to document my efforts at drawing my own plans of the macchi 202 and macchi 205.

I'm still trying to get information on the cross-sections of the macchi 202 and or 205 especially data from original factory drawings. One thing I realised is that the macchi's have a lot of subtle curvatures on the fuselage and wing root fairings and on the lower part of the cowl too and is quite hard to get the correct look.

Nick, R/C Modeler had a nice set of plans from Dennis Bryant. It included cross sections but there is no way of confirming their accuracy. I blew them up and wound up with a semiscale version. Dan.

Hi Nick,

I have replied to your private message. Great project and nice 3d work. I'm going the other way, designing primarily in 2d and then building a 3d model. Can't go much further until I get the retracts so I will be building the tail feathers and making plugs for the canopy and various fiberglass parts in the meantime. Look forward to your progress.

You could call Inovative Models they have plans for the MC202 drawn by Hank Baskin that look very good.

thanks bob

Just a little info on the model I have drawn.

Chad - Can't see the pictures you posted by the way & thanks for you PM, yes I am using A Brioschi's drawing as well for most of the cross-sections and also the AeroDetail no.15 Drawings and walkaround references. I found a few cross-sections and dimensions from the original Macchi205 and 202 repair manuals and they match up well with the drawings by Brioschi.
I did manage to find one or two original factory blueprints, but so far haven't found a set of factory blueprints that have all the required cross-sections.

By the way I like the model to be 1/5 * 1/4 size but may 1st make one which is a bit smaller at 1/6 just to see how things fit and how it flies before investing more time and effort.

The MC202/205 only have about 8% bigger wing area than the BF109 so I'm a bit apprenhensive about the wing loading.

Feel free to post your efforts on this thread

Nick

Yes Dan, I do have the Dennis Bryant version, the side profile is accurate so as the fin, elevator and wing dimensions and also importantly the wing root fairing profile matches with all the documentation + the original factory drawings that i have.

Only the fuselage cross-section doesnot match any of the drawings i have

Mastermodel - I have the IMP plans too.... it's reasonably accurate but I did realise that none of the parts drawn really match well and also the wing to frame attachment seems to require a bit of fit and adjustment given the fit of teh parts.

Hence I decided I'll be better off redesigning the whole a/c frame myself with good cross-sections to built up the cowl + wing fairing accruately

I forgot to mention, I'm thinking of maybe at the end of the build to make the plans available if the it turns out well.

If anyone has more infor or blueprints for the Macchi 205, I would be delighted. I have yet to find enough info to alter the nose area for the 205 version.

If anyone looks closely, the reare of the cockpit support is a little different from standard Macchi 202, that's because I'm planning to do the version in the photos. I'll probably do the other version too.

Nick,

I strongly recommend you pick-up a copy of the Squadron Macchi C.205 walk around. The author does an excellent job showing all the subtle differences differences of the Macchi C.205 compared to the Macchi C.202, especially in the engine cowl area. This particular walk around is even nicer than the Aero Detail book on the Macchi, and it is very inexpensive. Please keep us posted on your project.

Hi all,

Chad- my bad, just realised my internet firewall was blcoking the images. No problem once I've removed the firewall .

For references the sources I used no particular order
1)aermacchi mc202, 205 repair manuals and some factory prints and pilot manuals
2)the al 'italia series of books with drawings from a brioschi
3)Aviolibri series for 202 and 205
4)mushroom series
5)older book called macchi in action (squadron?)

And also help from various individuals who are interested to see a model of teh mc 202 and 205 take shape

Nick

Hi Jay,

I have not seen that book, do you have a scan of a page or two just to show the level of detail that's available?

Does it have any detail on teh macchi 205 ORIONE N1 and N2 versions.

Like I said before if the wing loading on the MC202 & 205VELTRO is too high, i may turn the whole plan into the MC205 ORIONE or 206 which had longer wingspan.

Hi Nickhuang,
I built the 200 in 1/4 scale and love the plane. Very interested in your plans. You know the
left wing is a little longer than the right ? Have started a larger version of the 200 for a radial.
I will be watching your progress.

Hi Nick,

Here's a few scans for you. There is one 4-view in the booklet, but no cross sections. I would stick with the Angelo Brioschi drawings from Ali d'Italia. They're considered the best. The booklet has nothing on the Orione.

Oh yes the macchi's all have un-equal wing span as is evident in the blueprints. For the moment I am making the wings equal lenght having the longer lenght. Since I plan to make the 1/5 scale model with wings attached to the fuselage via the scale wing attachement points, I can always rebuild one of the other wing to be or the correct shorter lenght.

I have no idea how the unequal wing lenght will affect the flying properties of the model.

I am guessing the reason for he differences in wing length were to help counteract the effects of torque. It would help with the role rate in th opposing direction. Only a guess

Ed,

Congratulations on how well your Macchi C.200 has been doing at Top Gun the last couple of years.

Did you change the airfoil or incidences at all, or did you stick with what the plan shows?

Thanks.

Thanks Jay,
I used 2 deg pos in the wing. Tail at 0 deg. Engine at 0 deg. 2 degrees of washout. Same airfoil that is on the plans.
You still building the 200?

Thanks for the figures, Ed. Much appreciated.

I had to put building on hold for a couple of years, but now I'm ready to get back to it. My building table is clear and I'm kicking around what my next project should be. I keep coming back to the Macchi C.200, especially after seeing how well yours flies and how good it looks.
