Hi Guys.
Something a bit different here. I am going to do a build on my new trailer. I am calling it my Dual Sport Trailer since I will be using it in the winter for my Snowmobile and in the summer for my jets.
The trailer is a 2011 US Cargo 6 X 12 Round Top Trailer. It has some nice features such as Rhino Liner on the frame, Diamond Plate Stone Guard, side door, ramp door, roof vent, dual lights inside with wall switch, 3/8" plywood walls instead of Luan. The trailer will be equipped with Snowmobile Ski Glides, Track Mat and a Super Clamp II. For the jets it will feature E-Track on the walls for adjustable shelving, fire extinguisher mount, and various compartments for all support equipment. Here is the trailer currently....

How much did the trailer cost? If you were only using it for RC, would you still buy that size?

thanks

Hi Frank!

DrScoles, The trailer was $2675.00 which I thought was a good price. My previous jet trailer was a 5 X 8 and I was very happy with that. It seems that this trailer is way more than I need for my jets but exactly what I need for the Snowmobile.

Frank

He'll have to go bigger than the 150 to haul that trailer

I think what Dom meant to say is a thread on outfitting the trailer, i.e. adding shelves and other accessories

Dom, Look forward to your post on the trailer layout. Mine is almost identical, so may get some neat ideas from you. In case you have not seen this thread... http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_117335/tm.htm ... there are a lot of ideas stored in the 65 pages.

Step one of my "Build" was paint. I applied three coats of Glidden Porch and Floor Outdoor paint to the ceiling, walls and floor. I think the paint adds that finished look to the inside. I will also be crawling under the trailer to further seal the underside of the floor. There appears to be a light coating of some black paint looking product on the wood but since I will be using this in the snow I want to seal the wood as much as possible.

Man, that's a freakin' good price. Something like that in Western Canada would be 4500 +/-.

I just bought a 8' x 26' for my work/company and it was 8500. Wish I had a rig that could tow it as we only use it part time. It's big enough I could just strap the jets to the floor with the wings on....

I thought so too. I was expecting it to be at least $1,000 more than that.

Wow it's been awhile since I posted to this thread. After painting, I needed to protect the trailer floor from the razor sharp carbides that are under the snowmobile skis. For this I installed some composite Ski Guides. Down the middle I installed a track mat for both traction and protection of the trailer floor. The snowmobile is held in place with a Super Clamp II. I needed to drill a 1/2" hole through the trailer floor to install the lug. Be sure to find a location that will also pass through the trailer frame. The ramp door makes it very easy to drive the sled in and the Super Clamp takes a second to secure the sled for towing. The dual ceiling lights are another plus. Not only can I be on the road in about a minute from pulling off the trail but I also have all the added protection and convenience of an enclosed trailer. That completes part one of my Dual Sport Trailer build. I will now focus all my time on my F-4 and Hawk builds. Part two of the trailer build....for R/C Jets will resume in the spring.

LOL

It's the same as what you guys use down south, but we need to take the wheels off an put on skis.

Dom, nice sled. Sue and I each have our own... with the storm dumping right now, we may be using them tomorrow.

Well the Hawk is just about finished with only easy stuff left to do. I decided to finish a tougher project which is my trailer. Nothing would be worse than finishing the Hawk and not being able to fly it because I can't haul it around. I made some good progress here. Pictures to follow. I am headed back out to put another coat of paint on my shelves.

I just realized my trailer is a 2012 not a 2011. I tied to edit the first post, but that option is gone. Does it go away after a certain time period?

Next I installed my vertical E-Track. This is positioned so that the screws that hold it to the trailer will sink into the metal flanges that run top to bottom on the trailer frame. There are 38 screws per E-track holding it to the trailer frame. It is not going anywhere. E-Track has a number of unique accessorizes that all lock into the track. Shown here is the 2X4 bracket. Notice how it locks into position via the built in mechanism. With this system, I can adjust my shelves anyway I want or remove them all together.

Here the bottom shelf is framed up. Note the 1/4 bolts that hold the 2X4's to the bracket.
