Ok guys, we are just about 3 weeks away from Warbirds Over the Rockies. I've been talking to the event producer, Brian O'Meara, and he has been telling me that this year's event will be better than ever. I have been to the last 2 Warbird's events and if this one is better I can't wait to see it. I will be onsite to cover the event for RCU this year.

Brian has a pyro-technics show at noon that is incredible and nobody else comes close to it. This year I'm hoping to have 4 or 5 cameras covering the pyro show as I want to put together a video highlighting it. So hopefully I'll get some good footage of the event.

There will be plenty of big warbirds there as well Brian finally got his B-26 "Flak Bait" in the air earlier this year, so you can count on it being in the air at Rockies. Dino DiGorgio will be coming up from Florida to pilot this big bird.

Brian also has 2 World War II pilots on tap for his banquet on Saturday night.

If you can make it to the event it is well worth the trip. The Love field is a 1st class facility and all the pilots flying there seem to enjoy it. I highly recommend pilots to try to make this event as it will be well worth the trip. It's a great way to wrap a flying season. Even if you're not flying it's well worth the trip just to watch the flying.

I know there are some points that I'm missing here, hopefully Brian or his crew will fill those details in here.

I will be posting pictures and a daily wrap up video each day from the event here in this thread. So check back in here to see the action.

As the thread gets going I'd like to see who's going and what they plan on flying. That way I can start prepping what I want to video at the event. So, let me know who's coming.....

Hope to see you all there.

Ken

Lots of exciting stuff for Warbirds Over The Rockies.

First, this is meant to be a pilots event and our intent is to provide as much flying as a guy wants. Lots of pilots will log six flights a day. We have a very active, organized flight line. We welcome all kinds and sizes of warbirds as long as they are finished in military markings. If you have some small foamies, bring them, as we will organize a mass launch of them several times a day.

Our noon time airshow is based loosely on the history of military aviation. SO bring anything from WWI thru current day jets. The pyro show will feature mostly WWII fighters and bombers. Strafing runs with the fighters, flak shot at the high flying bombers and huge fire balls after the bombs are dropped. This is a RC pilots air show, so anyone is welcome to fly in it.

After the model show, several rare and impressive full size planes will perform flyovers/. Such as a Korean Mig, T-33, T-28 and a bunch of full size WWI biplanes.
THe 4th FG will be our guests on Friday. That group destroyed 1008 enemy planes over Europe and they will be having their reunion in Colorado that weekend.

Our informal banquet will feature Bud Anderson, the triple ace of the 357th FG who flew the P-51 OLD CROW. He later flew in Korea, and Viet Nam. A true American hero and he will be signing books and talking about his exploits that he had with Chuck Yeager and the rest of the 357th.

Although we are not a contest, we will have some fantastic trophies handed out during the banquet . A few of the categories are - best finish, most unusual aircraft, best cockpit, engineering achievement etc. There are a total of 22 awards.

We usually expect about 150 pilots and thousands of spectators.

RC Universe is one of our major sponsors and RC Ken will provide excellent video coverage daily. Model Airplane News will have journalists to cover the event and Propwash video will produce an hour video as well.

We have a lot of fantastic sponsors that are listed on our web site, but I would especially like to thank our Platinum Sponsors that help make an event of this magnitude possible , ZAP glue, Frank Tiano, Robart Manufacturing, Kondor Model Products, Horizon and Aero-Works.

This year we have partnered the event with Mental Health America/Colorado. This organization caters to the needs of people and families with such ailments as Alzheimer's, dementia and bi-polar. WOTR is proud to be a major contributor to this worthwhile organization.

The crew that spends a year planning this event has done a fantastic job again and the Love -Air field , with their 800 foot runway is looking fantastic. I hope you can make it.

If so, drop some pictures of what you plan to bring.

We have very special rates at several hotels that are listed on the web site. Make sure to mention the event when you book your room.
You can register and purchase banquet tickets on line thru Paypal. I know of several guys who want to share a tent, so if you are interested, contact me.

Here are some pictures of my 144 in B-26 Marauder, Flak Bait.
Flies very realistically on a pair of Zenoah GT 80s, swinging Menz 24X10 props. Custom retracts, Sierra wheels and brakes.

Phil Clark from England built it and shipped it to the US.

Futaba 14 MZ radio with a ton of servos and batteries. Weighs a little over 100 pounds. It takes four guys to pick her up.
The older gentleman in the last picture is Buck Rodgers, he is 92 and flew 27 of his 85 missions in Flak Bait. He will be in attendance at WOTR as well.

THe 262 belongs to Ryan Haldenwanger. A Grumania kit with a Jetcentral Rhino in it.

Come watch the show, come be a part of the show. Come have some fun!!!

Brian

I know you guys have heard me say this year after year, but if there is one show you make this year this is the one. The photo tells the story. Its 3 days of non-stop screaming Warbirds. Flight line control is the best I have ever seen. Brian and Crew have really set the gold standard on how a show should be run.

Wow Evan, if you have what I hope you have, that will be fantastic. Followed your thread, and am very much looking forward to seeing your bird in person.

I should have the usual Fokker tripe, and my FW190 D9. Camping through the weekend. If anyone wants to join me by my fire in the evening, you are totally welcome.

Hope you guys have a great weekend. Unfortunately I'm not able to attend this year. My wife and I are heading to Italy for a wedding.

Vic - if you still have my air pump from last year can you bring it and give it to Cal?

Hope to see some great pictures on here......

Black X and the Mb339 will be making the trip to WOTR. Evan, the Dora is gonna need some jet escort! The D-13 and the 262 in the same airborne picture.

WOTR is not to be missed. Lots of flying, good people, and fantastic aircraft. The banquet with Bud Anderson is not to be missed. A perfect social gathering to honor the hero's of all the military branches and services who gave us and CONTINUE to give us the freedom's we take for granted everyday.

All:

Seven days to go until we open the 2011 version of Warbirds Over The Rockies. Pilots from as far away as England and Australia as well as from all over the US are registered and a contingent from the WWII 4th Fighter Group will be present of Friday. Pilot registrations are ahead of last year but there will still be plenty of opportunity to get as many flights in as you wish. Many great aircraft, a great banquet speaker and noon time pyro shows as well as full scale fly overs. Lots of vendors too!! Oh, and did I mention the flyovers and pyro? Check it out on the website below!!!!

There is still time to register on line at http://www.warbirdsovertherockies.com but we will be closing the registration site on Wednesday September 21.

See you soon

Pilots are going to start arriving on Tuesday. Tents and infrastructure goes up Wednesday.

Be sure to bring your foamies if you have one for a mass launch.

Also, be sure to purchase your banquet tickets on line if you know you are going to go. With Bud Anderson, this will sell out our 200 prime rib dinner.

The FAA has signed off on our waiver for the full size flyovers of a T-33 and a Russian Mig 17 and a bunch of others.

Come fly with us. Or just come watch the show. It is going to be a lot of fun.

The event will be covered by Model Airplane News, Propwash Video, RC Universe and a British magazine. A ton of pilots have registered from 18 states, England, Brazil, Canada and Australia. Oh yea, and Texas too!!!

We will have a total of 25 different trophies , judged by phantom judges.

Bring your bombers and fly in the noontime PYRO show. Bring your WW I bike and fly in the gaggle

Proceeds are going to Mental Health America/Colorado
Brian

ED:
Sorry you feel that way about the foamy thing. A bunch of pilots have asked for it in the past and it will only be for a few minutes each day. I want to keep this a pilots event, so if the pilots do not want the warbird foamies next year, then we won't do it.

We do not need a lot of discussion about it on this forum, but come talk to me at the event if you have an opinion either way.
