Status: offline 		Well unfortunately us Canadians have to start preparing for the dreaded winter soon to come. I was given this kit a couple yrs ago (2x hand down from an estate) and figure I'll kill a few birds with one stone with this. Do a build (been arf'ing for awhile), go gas and go nostalgia (kit from the 80's).

Popped the box open and all 4/4 plans are there . So, rolled out and combined 1/4 and 2/4 together and starting to study them over to get my head wrapped around it. It's missing the instructional book for it, but don't really see any issues with that so far.

So, just in the phase of looking it over and to start acquiring the necessary parts before I start.

Specs.

Wing: 86"
Cord: 17"
Wing Area: 1469 sq "
Flying Weight (with recommended Quadra 35) : 17lbs.
Fire wall to TE of rudder: 64"

Being a stik with the engine exposed I wanted to acquire something that looks good and from the limited info about this bird (seen an observation that the Quadra 35 was weak for this plane and a vid with one that had a 55 on it) opted to try the XYZ 53sts twin on it, which I have coming.

So, for now, we still have good weather, so flying is the mandate right now. As parts start to show up and the weather fails, I keep updating.

Status: offline 		I have always wanted one of these for some reason.....you may know this but I would make a template of every part you can. One day you may need to rebuild something or may want to scratchbuild one all together! Engine choice should provide good power. Good luck and post lots of pics!!

I picked up this same airframe yesterday and I'm planning to put a FPE 4.2 on it. I'm hoping to be able to get a few flights on it before the snow hits.

Status: offline 		Got the engine and engine stand built. The twin is starting to come in nicely! Next is to prep the table for the build. Got a good idea from another thread for the table ( http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_10713897/tm.htm ). Just have to check with our wholesaler to see if I can source 1/4" neoprene mat for underlayment under the tiles. They have 1/8" that I'll use on top, so half way there! But, weathers starting to crap out so the the build is starting, happy and sad at the same time.

Status: offline 		What a great project. I'm a big fan of the Stik's.. one of the best flying models ever designed I think. Yes... go with the modern power-plant.. haha.. Quadra's went out with the 80's I'm sure.. Have fun with it... I'm a tad jealous..

That twin looks good!

You don't need any instructions, it's a stik!

Only hard part is decided to laminate the vertical stabilizer or planks, or use sticks cut to shape.

Status: offline 		Well after a long over due start, I finally got started on it. Decided to lighten up the ribs and go with outboard servos. Added in some beefing on the trailing edge between the ribs to stiffen it up and give more bite for the robart hinges. Also extended the wing joiner an extra bay on each side. Stll haven't really decided if I'm going to go 2 piece wing yet or not. Got the second wing started to get the wing halves mated before I get too far on the sheeting and if going 2 piece I'll have add in another dowel point on the front. Thinking I should anyhow.

Well on Sunday morning I had a run in with the belt sander so when the pain eases up a bit I get back at the construction. So for now I'll tinker on some sanding for now.

Beltsanders are devious!

That wing should handle 200 Gs easy now.

Mine got put back again. Trying to save for the engine bur some Robart 1/4 scale cub gear for the Balsa USA one came up on eBay. They are always back ordered so I had to grab them now.

All I can say is ouch! The giant sweat stick has a lot of memories for me. Last year I was able to buy a short kit. Just have to finish a few projects before I start construction so will be following your thread.

Status: offline 		Well the finger is pretty much healed up and I'm back at the build. Decided to keep with the built up HS and VS instead of going with planking. Going with pull pull rudder and installing the elevator servos in the rear. Using the forward tank bay for the ignition gear and putting the 20oz fuel tank on the CG. As was mentioned earlier by GarySS to stock up on glue and boy was he right. Used about 3/4 of the bottle of wood glue in the pictures and 1/2 of a 2oz med CA so far! So it's back to the shop this afternoon and get some more done!

Status: offline 		On the build we did rear servos in the tail also. We used pull-pull on the elevators as well as the rudder. It gave his model a very WWI look. You can just make out his system. in this photo.

Got the tail done up, just need to install a wiring tube for the rear servos and guide tubes for the pull pull. Glad to finally get it off the print, now I can go ahead and just free build. Just working on the wing forward mounting point, didn't want to go with the single dowel. Then finish building the aileron trays on the wing and a bit of work on the tips and then I can sheet up the wings.

Nice build thread on the plane. I wanted to say that is the slickest engine stand I have seen in a long time. I'm in real need of a good run in stand. How about a build thread on your stand!!!!!!!!!Maybe a where to buy the parts too. There have been a lot of how toos on tables and building boards but a good engine run in stand is something I can't recall seeing. I'm talking a nice one like yours.

I couldn't agree more.  Nice stand!  My stand has to be tied to my flat bed trailer.  I want to know how you slotted the flat steel unless you have a mill. My drill press is pretty stout, but it won't work as a mill.

Status: offline 		Well you got me me convinced Amish, we're going to to switch it over to pull pull on the elevators. It will give it a great look for sure! Got the double servo arms, wire couplers, tensioners and vinyl coated kevlar ordered last night. Should be here in a couple days.

Once I get a bit of time Graybeard, I'll do a break down of the engine stand. I did use my mill for slotting the riser and engine mount cross pieces Lowvoltage. A fellow flier built one like mine, and he just drilled holes and used a zip disk in his grinder to cut close between them and finished the cuts with a dremel cut disk, if that helps
