I am considering adding flaps to my World Models P-51 (.46 sized). It has a 57.5" wing span and weighs about 6 lbs. There is about 4.5" at the trailing edge of the wing roots where I can add flaps. The chord length of these flaps would be the same as the chord length of the ailerons... about 1". I know it is no where close to being scale, but it would be nice if I can land the plane just a little slower.

What aerodynamic effects, if any, would these wimpy flaps have? Would they slow down the plane on landing?

Thanks,
Juice

On my Dynaflite P-51, about the same size as yours, I ran a bandsaw along the trailing edge, about where the full-scale hinge line for the ailerons and flaps would be.
Added a trailing edge to support the new ailerons and flaps.
Worked excellently!
Aileron reponse stayed the same, and with gear and flaps down, it looks really good!
