I currently have a Turnigy Accucel 6 with the Turnigy TGY 20Pro power supply.  I want to buy a charger that can charge (and preferably balance too) 4 2S LiPo's that are 6000mAh as fast as possible.  I read around and I know that I will need a good amount of power from the power supply.  I think I'll take one of my 850 or 1000w server power supplies I have sitting around and do the HowTo that is listed on here.  I want to make sure I have plenty of power to supply for all 4 batteries and I think my little chinese 220W Turnigy isn't going to cut it.

So, here are the options I see

#1 Hobby King Quatro 4x6 $93

I hear this is actually the same as the Hitech X4, but maybe that's just rumor.
Does anyone know if I can charge 4 LiPo's at 6A like I want.  Is it going to charge REALLY slow and take forever?  It makes no sense to buy a charger that can charge 4 and have to wait hours, right?

#2 Turnigy 4x6S $99

this looks badass.  however, I dont care solely about looks, DUH.  I want it to WORK.  So same deal as above.

#3 Hitec X4 $125

My friend has this and says it works great. He may be ignorant though and maybe there is a better solution?

A couple of the chargers are indeed 6 amps and 240 watts. The GT power x-drive is one of them. Charging at 1C is going to take an hr any way you do it. If you are in a bigger hurry then consider using 1,2,4 chargers and doing it at 2C or faster.

Can you please elaborate?  I am new to this whole LiPo deal.  On my Turnigy Accucel 6, if I am charging my 2S that is 6000mAh and I choose to "LiPo Balance" and I say 2S and it detects 2S, It takes about 57-67 minutes to fully charge.  Are there ways to make that faster, or is that expected and normal.  That Integy charger looks similar to all the others.  It shows 1S-6S and up to 6A.  Can it charge 4 2S batteries at a time that are 6A?  Or will it somehow slow down as the more you hook up, the less juice it supplies to each, and they end up taking 2.5hrs total or something?  I would expect it to behave the same as a standard 1 battery charger but it just charges 4 at once?  I know I will want to have a bigass power supply to make usre it can get all the power it wants.

What you need is a higher watt charger for those big batts. Most 6000 ma batts today are capable of a 2C charge rate or 12 amps, which would cut you charge time in half. Check out the specs of your particular batts as far as charge rate goes. Accucel 6 is a great charger that I use for the smaller batts. For the bigger ones I use the ECO 6-10 from HK. It will do 6 cells at a 10 amp rate. I have two 5000 ma 5 cell packs in a 1/3 scale Christen Eagle and the ECO will charge each one in 37 mins at 7 amp charge rate limited by my small charge connector that gets to warm at 10 amp charge rate. ECO has the same charge format as the ACC6, so simple to use. It will also go down to the smallest single cell batts. Hope this helps.

Let's just talk about a single pack for now because it is easy to multiply by 4 for 4 packs. The only way to reduce charge time is to charge faster (higher current) Rather than using 6 amps we could use 10 or 12 amps to cut the time in about half.

Each pack should be added up like this:

A 2s pack is 8.4 volts x 6 amps current = about 50 watts so those 4 output chargers are great and will take an hr or so. The total is around 200 watts.

If we want to do this job in half the time we need twice the power , this is 8.4 volts x 12 amps = 100 watts and may take 35-40 minutes. 400 watts for 4 packs.

The 4 output chargers are just like 4 of your accucels in one case. If I had to buy one , I would surely get the 6 amp x 240 watt one rather than a 5 amp and 200 watt one.

If you are interested in 1 hr charges and want to do up to 4 at a time the 4 output chargers are going to be perfect for you and your 220 watt ps will probably work just fine since you may stagger the start time when doing 4 packs and by the time you put the 4th pack on the 1st pack may already be cutting back power as normal. In otherwords all 4 chargers will rarely use 50 or 60 watts at a time.
