I've decided that if I want to get a boat, the electrics are out of the picture as I want something bigger that can handle bigger water and something that will last more than 10-20 minutes running. I've decided on gas but I need help choosing the right path. I really wish I could afford a new super g from warehouse hobbies, I know they are good boats and last forever if maintained. But cost is an issue so I am looking at used models. I ran across a Shockwave 55 (the original yellow one) that is supposedly runs great and is in good shape. He wants $325 for it. I know it is zenoah powered so thats good. Shoould I go for it? Or should I stay away from Shockwaves? It's really tempting, help me decide guys.

If your buying used then it is tough to really recommend one thing over another - the original boat is one thing but you are now adding in the variable of who you are buying from and what they are actually selling you.

Personally the shockwave was not my thing - I know they have fans - but they also had some issues to overcome too. I have purchased a pair of Super Gs used that were each no more than $400 and each came with a whole pile of extras. I was able to inspect one on pick up and it was basically new. I have put a few hours on it with nothing more than charging batteries and adding fuel. The second came from a good seller and was also in the condition described. Keep in mind also that there will be plenty of used boats hitting the market soon as the season comes to an end.

The Shockwave may well be the best boat for you - but I dont have one because they just dont float my boat. Be cautious of used sellers - there are some great ones and there seems to be more and more who are not as nice as they want you to believe.

Thanks for the reply. Whats are the main problems these boats have (weak hull? hardware? etc)? And here is a good question. Would you take a similarly priced Rio 51 with the FUJI motor over the Shockwave? Hmmm...I wish a nice Super G would pop up for sale around here.

Dude , like your hauler but I would be nervous as hell carring my boats back there...lol I too have 2 RIO 51s and 1 Blackjack 55, 1 Yellow Shockwave 55. One RIO has the Fuji motor in it and as soon as it falls apart (which it will ) Its getting a Zen. All are great boats (JMO) but as a first boat you might want to make sure you get one that has a clutch so you can launch it easier. Also as with all boats you are going to have little stuff to fix or make better as these are mass produced boats. I would centainly buy used to save money over new. You may decide boats are not your hobby....but then again , I think not.
